If you decide to have a pet and opted for a chow chow dog, you need to be prepared for the fact that there may be problems in upbringing that will be very difficult to eliminate.
Aloofness
Like any breed of dog, the Chow Chow has its own characteristics. Buying a puppy does not mean that you will become a master for him. They look closely at each member of the family and independently choose the main one for themselves.
The Chow Chow is very restrained in showing his love and affection. His actions are unobtrusive. Dogs of this breed behave distantly towards unfamiliar people, so you should not immediately expect from it the manifestation of vivid emotions and feelings. They have a calm temperament.
These “cubs” do not show aggression without a good reason. But if you could not find a common language, the dog will behave incredulously with you. He trusts only himself more. He does what he considers necessary and does not become very attached even to the owner, although he loves him.
Failure to follow commands
The Chow Chow is difficult to train. But this does not mean that you need to give up. You just have to be prepared for the fact that you will need a lot of strength, patience and perseverance.
It’s all about character, because every dog is individual. From the moment they are born, they feel like a special person. They cannot be bribed even with their favorite delicacy, and even more so, they cannot be forced to execute the command if they themselves do not want to.
Therefore, many say that these animals are stubborn and not amenable to training.
There are several little tricks that will help the owner of a Chow Chow:
- You need to pronounce the command clearly and once, without adding any extra words to the phrase;
- Before starting classes, you can take a short walk with the dog outside. So, he will get a little tired and it will be easier for him to listen to you;
- Class time should be strictly limited. Do not train too long. If your pet gets tired, you won’t be able to get his attention.
Unwillingness to walk next to the owner
Chow Chow loves space and always feels special. Some pets do not like to walk around, they want to run and have fun the way they want. This again has to do with their temperament. It is best to walk with him in an open area where you can unleash.
Although the animals look like hulking bears, they run fast. The dog will be happy to run and throw out the accumulated energy. Moreover, you will notice that he will still try not to let you out of his field of vision.
Complete misunderstanding
Due to the nature of the character, the owner of the dog may feel that he does not listen to him or does not understand at all. If you demand from a pet one thing or the other without any system and regularity, of course, he will not understand what you want from him.
But even if you clearly voice your words, but the pet does not react, it means that you are not yet at such a trusting level of relationship, or the dog does not have a desire to do something.
Each pet is individual, and whatever their character, the Chow Chow is a breed that, with close contact and excellent relationships, feels the mood and experiences of a loved one and tries to console.
