Grace, an adorable senior dog, may have lost her sight, but she never lost her ability to love.
A few years ago, 12-year-old Grace was diagnosed with a painful eye condition that ultimately required the removal of both of her eyes. Her family made the difficult decision to proceed with the surgery, knowing it was the only way to ensure her comfort.

“We knew it was the best way to keep Grace comfortable and free from pain,” Grace’s mother, Shelby Salmela, told The Dodo.
Despite losing her sight, Grace’s heart never wavered, especially when it came to her favorite person.

A love that transcends sight
While Grace adores Salmela, she has always had a special bond with her mother, her beloved grandmother. Before her surgery, Grace would throw herself into her grandmother’s arms with immense joy. Today, even without her sight, her reaction hasn’t changed.
“It’s so sweet to see Grace’s excitement when she realizes the person ringing the doorbell is her GG,” said Salmela.

Although Grace’s world may seem dark, it’s filled with warmth and love. As soon as she senses Grandma nearby, her tail wags with excitement, proving their bond is stronger than ever.

Always in her heart
Grace’s grandmother moved away three years ago, which has reduced their visits. But even distance can’t weaken their bond.

“We probably only see her six times a year,” said Salmela. “But Grace is very attached to her. We FaceTime every day, and even when she hears my mom’s voice [during these video chats], she gets excited.” »

Although Grace can no longer see her favorite person, she still feels their presence in all the areas that matter.
