A boy left his dog at the doors of a shelter to save him from his father’s ill-treatment, the gesture went viral on social networks.
On February 13 of this year, volunteers from the Xollin Animal Shelter, located in the State of Mexico, found something unexpected at the front door. There was a large cardboard box that looked abandoned, inside there was a pit bull puppy, a stuffed animal and a letter written by a child.
The moving letter describes the reasons why the decision was made to leave the puppy in the shelter, apparently the boy’s father mistreated the dog.
The letter said:
“My name is Andrés and I am 12 years old, between my mom and I decided to let him enter your hands behind my father because he had planned to sell it. He mistreats him and hits him. Once he hit him so hard, he injured his tail. I hope you can help and take care of him. I left him a stuffed animal so he wouldn’t forget me. ”
The boy seemed very sad, but to prevent his father from hurting him more, he decided to separate from his best friend and take him to the shelter to find him a new home.
The shelter posted the moving story on its Facebook page, and it went viral, affecting social media users.
Shelter staff wrote on Facebook:
“We have the puppy that went viral after a 12-year-old boy decided to leave him in the shelter with us, so that he would be safe from the abuse his father caused the puppy.”
The puppy, whom they called “René,” has received more than 300 adoption requests since the publication of his story.
While it is very rewarding to know that many people are interested in adopting René, he is not yet ready to be adopted. It must first be evaluated by the veterinarian and carry out the necessary treatments.
Shelter staff regretted that no one is interested in the rest of the dogs that house, have suffered and are looking for a permanent home.
They wrote :
“I never believed that more than 300 requests from different states of the Republic would arrive to adopt René. We currently have 120 other animals waiting for families […] If everyone had opened their heart and their house as for this puppy [René], ALL our animals would have been adopted. ”
For this reason, the shelter makes an invitation to all users who are waiting for this story, so that they are encouraged to adopt other dogs who need it.
Rous Segura, founder of Xollin, used his Facebook profile to thank the boy for the great act of love he had with his pet.
The dog was subjected to a medical examination due to the tail injury. He will be there until he is healthy and given up for adoption.
