An adorable kitten who was abandoned because she was born with growing fingers and other health issues, has thankfully become a new social media star. The beautiful white furry ball was born in New York City with a rare condition that caused her to have different colored eyes and extra toes on her paws.
Sadly, the poor six-year-old cat named Sansa was found abandoned by staff at the city’s animal rescue center earlier this year.
Since then, various internet campaigns have garnered over 26,000 social media followers, and now it has finally found a new home.
Adorable cat is dumped because he’s different
Karen, Sansa’s new mother told the Daily Mail:
“So many people have expressed how much they love Sansa’s uniqueness, with her different colored eyes and extra fingers.”
Karen is a 33-year-old animal lover who works for a well-known health care consulting firm in town. Usually, she is dedicated to helping patients with serious medical issues and illnesses, so she knows when someone needs special attention.
The woman comments that she didn’t adopt Sansa because of her special features, but wanted to save her from being locked in a cat cage. Karen and her husband met Sansa at a cat adoption event hosted by the New York Rescue Center.
Although there were many beautiful and friendly cats, the woman’s eyes turned her attention to a cage of a cat named Snow. At first glance, the cage was empty, there was only a sign announcing that the cat inside suffered from anxiety and had been abandoned by its owners.
When Karen approached the cage, she realized that it was not empty, the inhabitant of this place was hiding under the bed.
Karen said:
“I felt an immediate connection to her because I suffered from anxiety and knew I wanted her to be part of our family before I even saw her. Imagine my surprise when I realized she had different colored eyes and extra fingers.”
Two days later, the woman brought Snow, now called Sansa, home, and despite that, the cat took a long time to warm up. She was very shy, always scared and hid behind the TV every time the door opened; I only went out when I wanted to eat.
It was later discovered that Sansa also suffered from feline hyperesthesia disorder, a rare condition that affects nervous or highly stressed cats.
Karen said:
“Shortly after arriving home, we noticed that Sansa was exhibiting strange behaviors where her back was rolling uncontrollably followed by attacking her tail several times a day. She seemed to be in pain every time she rolled back and we couldn’t figure out why. We had never seen a cat do that.”
Karine added:
“We recorded these episodes to show the vet and after some tests he was finally diagnosed with the disease.”
Sansa was prescribed different medications, but none seemed to work, until they used CBD oil for pets, which helped curb such episodes. Now, the feline leads a calmer life; she has claimed the apartment as her own and is the new queen of the house.
Sansa wakes up at 6 a.m. to announce that she’s hungry, and if her parents don’t wake up, she starts throwing things on the floor.
Karen said:
“She knows exactly what she has to do to get her way.”
The furry one is mischievous, so Karen decided to create an Instagram account to document the antics of an anxious, genetically different cat.
Karen said:
“What makes her special is that it’s a little easier to get people’s attention, awareness and advocacy for the adoption of cats with special needs.”
For now, the beautiful kitten will continue to enjoy his new life, next to his beloved family, and model his beautiful differences to his followers.
