Sadie is an adorable 6-year-old German Shepherd who was adopted by Bryan Myers in September last year from Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge shelter in New Jersey, USA. What this new couple of friends and the community never imagined was that the dog would save the life of the man who had just rescued her.
While at the shelter, Sadie seemed confused. Staff claimed she was a loyal and highly intelligent dog, but after being abandoned by her previous owner, her fear of people and protective nature made it difficult for her to find a new home.
According to the shelter, her previous family had to move and they couldn’t have Sadie in their new home, so she was put back at the shelter.
An adopted dog saves the life of the man who just saved her

It was a difficult time for the dog.
Heather Centrella, reception manager at the Ramapo-Bergen animal shelter, told The Dodo:
“She was a little distant when she arrived and she wasn’t sure what was going on. She got a little locked up at the shelter, so we knew she was going to need an experienced home with someone. a patient.”

Brian met Sadie during her visit to the shelter and, despite her great nervousness, she quickly formed a special bond with him. He saw something very special in Sadie, so he wanted to give her a second chance at being happy and decided to adopt her.
Brian welcomed her into his home, never realizing that Sadie would play such an important role in his life. A few days after his adoption, Brian suffered a stroke and collapsed, at the time with only Sadie at home.
Brian told CBS:
“I was sleeping and had to go to the bathroom at night. As soon as I stepped on the floor, I fell and hit the floor. I couldn’t get up.”
Brian fell to the ground, and seeing that something was wrong with his father, Sadie refused to move away from him. She licked his face to try to keep him awake and barked intensely to alert that something was going on at home.

The man couldn’t get up and Sadie knew she had to help Brian. As her dad tried to hold onto her necklace, she struggled to lead him across the room to his phone. Everything indicated that he had suffered the attack in his sleep.
Upon learning what happened to the dog and her father, the shelter wrote on Facebook:
“Sadie was the only reason Brian could ask for help. This time Sadie gave Brian a second chance at life.”

The shelter staff are very proud of Sadie, for saving her human father’s life; they assure that thanks to his intelligence, Brian is alive. During the time the man spent in the clinic recovering, his dear companion was anxiously waiting for him at her family’s house.
What happened only reaffirmed to the man that that day at the shelter, he had made the best decision of his life. He thought he was giving Sadie a second chance, but she was really the one who saved his life and gave him a second chance at life.

Brian says:
“I love her more than I can express. She was there for me in my moment of crisis and instinctively knew what to do one way or another. I wouldn’t have picked myself up if she hadn’t not been there for me.”
Now, after making a full recovery, Brian and Sadie are finally reunited and the pup couldn’t be happier to have his father safe and by his side.
Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge posted a message on Facebook to celebrate this reunion; they wrote:
“Today Sadie and Brian are happy to be together again. They haven’t seen each other since that fateful night weeks ago, Sadie trained Brian to help her because of an accident stroke in his sleep. Yesterday Sadie saw with her own eyes that her dad is safe and coming home!”
