Two sister cats, Pumpkin and Spice, arrived at an animal shelter in terrible condition. The felines had cloudy eyes and upper respiratory infections, but felt better together.
Pumpkin (calico) and his sister Spice (with Dalmatian-like markings on her chest and legs) were very fragile and needed a foster home with dedicated 24-hour care.
Thoa Bui, who is co-founder of Mini Cat Town, heard about their situation and did not hesitate to help them.
The lifeguard told Love Meow:
“They were very ill with eye infections so bad that we didn’t know what the outcome would be. For Pumpkin’s first two nights with us, we just hoped he would be fine, because he wasn’t feeling well. “

The rescuer and her team were ready to do whatever it took to help the little cats save their eyes. After a few days at the rescue center, Pumpkin became more energetic and started moving. Spice was by his side encouraging him to keep going as they continued their journey of rehab together.
After a few days in the foster home, Spice’s health improved rapidly. The trouble in his eye was disappearing and every day he had more energy.
Encouragement from her sister has kept Pumpkin on her feet and eager to follow her recovery. The kitten’s bags under the eyes lessened, began to grow, and quickly developed a playful personality.
“After about a week, while his eyes were still being treated, they started to feel better. We knew they would be fine once we saw them eating alone and playing together.”
The rescuer added:
“Their newfound energy and joy is a far cry from when they arrived, when they felt so sick and slept a lot. Their eye treatment regiment was tough on them. We are very proud of them for their perseverance.”
While Pumpkin’s right eye healed, the left remained cloudy. Thankfully, throughout the recovery process, these sisters have remained close to each other to support each other and enjoy every moment they have together, rarely being apart.
“Just when we thought all hope was lost for Pumpkin’s left eye, it started to clear. Overnight, the cloudiness was almost gone.”
Spice enjoys being stroked and hugged, often tricking her sister into playing with her. Spice is very confident and has a lot of energy, which rubs off on Pumpkin. Now that Pumpkin is trying to follow in Spice’s footsteps, she too is coming out of her shell.
Finally Thoa says:
“The girls are pretty close after going through so much together and we can’t wait to find them a forever home once they’re ready. Spice is very outgoing and loves to play. Pumpkin is a bit more shy.”
