On June 22, Sandra Miranda’s family was to take a vacation in the city of Lake George, New York, in the United States. And so, they wouldn’t leave Alfie, their Australian Shepherd dog, alone on a walk that didn’t allow pets, the family opted to house the animal at a canine daycare called GF-K.

A few hours after being there, Alfie was gone. Since then, the family has been devastated by his disappearance. The one-year-old dog was even seen near the train tracks a few blocks from the daycare center on July 4.

Miranda tearfully told The Glen Falls Chronicle on Sunday, July 3:

He just turned one last Wednesday. We didn’t even get to celebrate his birthday.

The woman was disgusted by the situation, as her intention was to keep Alfie safe at daycare while the family took a steamboat ride on Lake George and later visited Fort William Henry.

Miranda added:

And they don’t allow pets.

The dog’s stay at daycare is said to be three hours, as that was when the family would be on walks, but those hours have become a real nightmare for the couple and their two children.

The woman continues:

They told me โ€˜We have bad news’. I thought they were going to tell me another dog attacked my dog โ€‹โ€‹or something. I never imagined in my life that they would say that the dog was gone.

GF-K9 owner Mike Tartaglione told The Chronicle he checked the video footage but could not figure out how Alfie escaped.

Mike Tartaglione, the daycare owner said:

It was like he was teleported 50, 60 feet from the parking lot. I feel terrible. I haven’t slept. I’m out of my mind.

The man helped with the search, but his presence on the team is a discomfort for Miranda because it reminds her that she lost her dog because she had him at her daycare.

To be honest, it’s very difficult to work with him. Because it’s a ‘you lost my dog’ reminder.

As the family was away from home, Miranda and her daughter stayed in town for another week, while her son and her husband returned to their hometown. The following week, the family took turns to continue the search.

Miranda said:

Now my husband will be here, so he won’t be with us for almost a week.” “We both work.

About eleven people volunteered to find Alfie, along with those who helped by sharing messages about the dog’s disappearance on social media. Despite the circumstances, the community’s commitment to the cause made the American happy.

And to the delight of the family and everyone involved in the search, on July 9, eighteen days after the disappearance, Alfie was found. A man saw him in the backyard of his house and called Miranda.

They told us that our dog was in their yard and I was there, I picked him up and he came towards me“, explained the “mother” of the dog.

In thanks to all those who participated in the research, the mother of the family posted a message on Facebook:

During the 18 days he was away, we were amazed at how many people took up our cause. From the hundreds of calls, we received to the countless people we saw walking around the neighborhood where he was hiding, looking for our dog, we were amazed.

Alfie was taken to the vet and, despite being thin, he was fine. Now, in a few days, you will be strong enough to start having fun with your family again.
