Uno is an adorable beagle who, along with other pets, was rescued from a kennel of dogs for lab testing. He was taken into the custody of John Ramer. Even though the man loved him with all his heart and offered him the best possible conditions, he did not expect the dog to reward him in this way. It’s one of the cutest things you’ll see today.
In August 2022, one of the largest pharmaceutical companies – Envigo RMS – specializing in carrying out animal experiments, was closed. The establishment conducting research on living organisms obtained “guinea pigs” from a pseudo-breeding of beagle dogs, which served as testers for drugs and nicotine products. If you want to know the reality in the laboratory, it is worth watching the story of Uno, one of the rescued animals.
Uno the Beagle was rescued from a lab kennel
Uno was placed in John’s care after Kindness Ranch Animal Security took over the first batch of beagles from a research kennel that housed thousands of beagles, including pregnant dogs and newborn puppies, in appalling conditions. Animals, regardless of age, were subjected to experiments aimed at assessing the risk of side effects from the use of given pharmacological agents, as well as studying the effects of smoking.
The animals had neither beds nor toys. They were not taken for walks or other activities. According to the testimonies of the volunteers involved in the operation of closing the laboratory, the dogs were fed with expired food containing parasites. In order to minimize the cost of veterinary care for four-legged patients, some dogs were simply killed instead of being cared for.
Fortunately, the Kindness Ranch Animal Security organization has set itself the goal of rescuing as many injured animals as possible and providing them with comfortable living conditions in loving homes. Located in Rolling Hills, Guernsey State Park in southeastern Wyoming, the ranch became a place where pets could start all over again. There, beagles freed from appalling conditions can rest, relax, and some can even rediscover the world around them.
Rescuers have not forgotten that animals rescued from laboratory cages rejoice even in the smallest things of everyday life around them. Examples of such behavior can be found in Uno.
Even though the young male was there with other rescued dogs, he had to be separated from the others almost immediately because he was louder than the others and scared of almost everything in his path. John, having been involved in the rescue operation himself, somehow felt responsible for Uno. He wanted to offer him the best conditions and show that he was now safe.
Uno has developed a unique relationship with John
The dog quickly caught up to him and willingly followed him around the facility, even when the man was doing his job. Beagle did not leave him almost a step and even rode with him on a cart, which he moved around the ranch. He observed with interest all the activities carried out by his tutor.
One of the most emotional experiences the man shared was the first time Uno put his paw on the grass.
Although at first Uno was startled by the ground that didn’t look like a metal cage or concrete, after a while, he started running wildly around the pitch. When he came back to John, he put his front paws on him, clearly showing that he wanted him to be hugged. Then he pressed his sweet face against the man, signaling that they were to be together forever. This moment was a turning point in the relationship between John and Uno.
Uno changed beyond recognition and after a while he even started taking care of other dogs
Since then, John and Uno have been a harmonious duo and do almost everything together. Interestingly, as the dog acclimated to the new environment, it naturally took on the role of caretaker for the other rescued dogs. One of them was the dog Cammie, who came to them from another lab.
The new tutor even jokes that beagles behave like best friends or like a couple in love. Satisfied, Uno does not leave his partner or adoptive sister with a single step, passing on to her the warmth and cordiality he himself received after arriving at the ranch.
The way Uno rewards him for saving him from a research kennel is undoubtedly touching, and at the same time makes you think about the fragility of the animal psyche. His guardian knows that now both can help other animals who have obtained their well-deserved freedom.
