A woman named Carmen Morales adopted a cat that was in critical condition from the streets of Florida, hungry, mangy and in pain, but the worst part was that the skin disease had spread to her eyes.
The little cat had a high degree of malnutrition and the discomfort he had was so great that he was dying.
“He couldn’t even see or open his eyes because the mites were so bad. It must have been so scary for him that he couldn’t see. He was alone and very thin because he couldn’t find food. “, Carmen Morales, founder of the Animal Friends Project, told The Dodo.
Carmen Morales, who has dedicated herself to rescuing and feeding the dozens of sick cats she has rescued over the years, set up a recovery room where she kept the cat isolated in her bathroom and started feeding him and giving him antibiotics to clear up the infection.
The poor cat was so uncomfortable even being treated with cotton pads, but after a few days he finally started to feel relief and reduce the itching.
Carmen adds:
“We could see how his tense body started to relax as the days passed. He was finally able to rest without scratching too much.”
The cat, who was christened Cotton, couldn’t see and immediately trusted Morales, applying ointment and coconut oil daily to his irritated skin. The quadruped gradually recovered, and his attitude began to be patient and loving.
Carmen Morales was in for a big surprise when Cotton opened her eyes to find she had one bright blue eye and one hazel eye. Over the months, Cotton overcame her health issues and seemed like a completely normal cat.
Cotton had renewed energy and his appearance was completely recovered, after being unable to see for a long time.
We thought he was blind and would be forever. The vet thought that even when his eyes recovered, they might be damaged, but that was not the case. It was a wonderful surprise. Her eyes were just beautiful.
After three months of care and recovery, six-year-old Cotton had formed a very close bond with Morales, and wherever she went, he followed her and was the only one who could cuddle her for more than a few seconds. But in front of other people, he acted nervous, wary and shy, but with Morales by his side he gradually felt more confident and at ease.
“If I go to another room, he meows outside the door, he sleeps with me, he stays by my side all the time… He and I have a wonderful relationship,” she added.
After all that Cotton went through before Carmen saved him, he now lives a life of care and affection, and is so grateful to be healed that he cares deeply about it.
The woman adds:
“We had a lot of requests for him because of his looks, but in the end I saw how attached he was to me. I didn’t have the heart to put him through another change. been through a lot already.”
Cotton is happy and the newest member of the Morales family, and now he spends his days relaxing, playing and keeping up with his mother.
