Cat brought to vet to be euthanized for litter box issues
After living with her owner for a while, the 13-year-old feline’s story took a drastic turn when she started urinating outside of her litter box, which ended up causing trouble for the man who decided to take him to the vet to be euthanized.
A decision that did not leave the vet indifferent, who managed to convince the owner that instead of putting him to sleep, we can give him another chance.
In this way, the doctor contacted the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) of Dutchess County in New York, USA to help the cat.
And as soon as the team arrived, Lulu underwent a veterinary examination to analyze her situation and so they could see the reason for her problem.
“The reason she didn’t use the litter box was because she had urinary crystals, a common disease in cats, especially her breed, and a simple change in diet solved the problem,” said Lynne Meloccaro told People, executive director of the local SPCA Dutchess County SPCA.
As soon as Lulu recovered, she was put up for adoption and quickly found a new family.
“Lulu’s beautiful blue eyes caught my attention and beckoned me to read her article. I was horrified and heartbroken by what I read. I previously had two cats with health issues, and one of them was named Lulu. I had planned to wait until the fall to adopt again, but it was supposed to be!” said his owner, who did not want to be identified.
And while it’s likely that Lulu had a hard time adjusting to her new home, she ended up surprising the woman from day one.
“That night she jumped on my lap and ate a whole plate of food,” the owner told the site. “She’s brave. She walks around the house, past her intended destination, and wants to know everything that’s going on. She likes to sit and look out the window. She has a very soft meow. I anticipate she will be the queen of the house in the near future,” she added.
And since she’s had experience caring for cats before, she’s ready to take care of any condition Lulu has, so she made an important reminder.
“Having a pet is a commitment. They are not disposable. Their ‘kindness’ can wear off sometimes. They deserve to be loved and cared for. Lulu’s condition is easy to manage. I commend the vet who has refused to put it down. I am grateful for the amazing work of the dedicated staff at the Dutchess County SPCA,” was the message from the owner of Lulu’s Righteous Words.
