This dog named Negro uses the leaves as money to buy treats at the school store that has been his home for years.
A dog named Negro has lived for years at the Monterrey Diversified Technical Educational Institution in Casanare, Colombia, a place he calls home. They call him the “Black Guardian”, because he always takes care of the students and is aware of everything that happens in the institute of higher learning.
In exchange for his help, Negro is looked after by the teachers of the school. They provide you with food, water, care and a safe place to spend the night. But apparently Black decided anything beyond that was up to him, like buying candy from the school store.
Negro is a very intelligent dog, who once arrived at the institute very quickly realized that there was a store, and that the students bought things there during their breaks. He saw that they received something to eat in exchange for money, and sometimes even bought him cookies.
Dog uses leaves as cash to buy treats
That’s when the dog had the best idea and tried something for himself.
Angela García Bernal, a teacher at the institute, told The Dodo:
“He would go to the store and watch the children give money and get something back. Then one day, spontaneously, he appeared with a leaf in his mouth, wagging his tail and letting it be known that he wanted a cookie”.
Thus, the new currency invented by Negro had been accepted by Gladys Barreto, who takes care of the store. The dog received his cookie and was very happy with his recent discovery.
Now Negro believes “money grows on trees”. Since then, regularly, the dog receives his treats daily, obviously safe for dogs, and pays in return with a sheet.
Gladys said:
“He comes for cookies every day. Always pay with a sheet. It’s your daily purchase.”
As unbelievable as it may seem, the smart dog has been doing this for years, but the staff limit his purchases to prevent the dog from getting fat on the cookies.
Angela finally said:
“When you see him for the first time, you almost want to cry. He has found a way to make himself understood. He is very intelligent”.
