A couple soothes the bad habits of their super sticky cat, inventing false legs for its comfort and tranquility.
Cats really like to sit on their owners’ legs, but there is one particular cat that has taken this taste to the extreme. Ziggy, is a 10 year old cat, who has no respect for personal space, she was adopted in a London shelter, by Rebecca May and her husband, Alex.
At first, she was very shy, but when she felt comfortable, she very often sat on the legs of her owners.
But Ziggy’s nice demands became a problem when her parents started working from home.
A couple comforts their cat with fake legs
Rebecca told The Dodo:
“When she bond with someone, it’s really very intense, she must absolutely be sitting on you.”
Ziggy is always looking for available legs, even before her parents feel it, she is already planning her caressing attack.
Rebecca said:
“Her ears break and her eyes turn black when she thinks you’re going to sit.” It’s almost as if your legs are a goal and it’s there, whether you’re ready or not.”
If she does not find a place available, Ziggy always finds a way to approach her parents, she sits on her back or swings on her arms.
For Ziggy, there is nothing more important than hanging out with the attention and company of his favorite people.
To get Rebecca’s attention, Ziggy climbs onto her desk and lays down on the computer keyboard, making her tasks difficult.
To try to solve the problem, the couple bought a cat bed, placed it next to the computer so that Ziggy could stay close.
Rebecca said:
“We think she needed warmth and that she feels protected.”
The couple tried different ways to calm their cat, but nothing seemed to be enough for her to be happy.
It was at this point that Alex came up with the idea of creating fake lap legs so that Ziggy fits when they couldn’t be with her. He thought that if she was happy and calm when she was sitting on her lap, then why not create fakes for her.
Alex took pants and stuffed them to look like human legs, added shoes and a stomach pillow. But, the real touch of ingenuity and magic, was the heating pad that he put between the knees of the pants, to provide warmth.
Rebecca said:
“He thought creating a lure would be fun, but I don’t think he expected it to really work. Harley (Ziggy’s sister) was totally disinterested, but Ziggy loved it.”
The cat quickly found the way to the lure, and stayed in the false legs for more than 4 hours, the idea had worked.
Rebecca was happy and decided to publish the story on Reddit, along with the following:
“Our cat has become super sticky now that we are both working at home. We had to improvise. “
Reactions from users and cat owners quickly arrived, commended their creative solution to the problems, and wanted to test the idea.
While the false legs have worked perfectly, Ziggy’s parents know that this solution does not replace the real ones.
Rebecca said:
“I think the pants are a little scary to keep all the time, but we will definitely take them off when we have a long day at work.”
