There are times when irresponsible families and owners cannot take care of their pets and make cruel decisions, such as dumping them on desolate roads, highways or isolated forests.

But since puppies are good companions and have always been characterized by their loyalty, they are able to stay where they were left in the false hope that their humans will come back for them.

Some spent days, weeks and even months in abandoned places until they were rescued. Of course, for rescuers this is not an easy task.

A few days ago, according to information from The Dodo, a situation like this occurred in southern California, United States, after a gray and white dog was found by passers-by under a tree in a school parking lot.

Many neighbors tried to drag him out of this place, which is where she presumably last saw her family, but the dog refused to be helped. She was very confused, scared and also suspicious.

“When they were trying to pick her up, she would kind of rush to a parking spot and then run to her tree. The tree was his refuge. It was like their little home,” said Suzette Hall, founder of the Logan’s Legacy organization.

After a few weeks, the dog was still there and the neighbors continued their attempts to save her, but it was impossible. “During the day, the door would open, but she wouldn’t leave. Nobody claimed it. It was so sad,” the lifeguard added.

The animal handlers had to resort to one of their many traps to get the “dog” out of there and into a warm shelter.

Suzette bought hot dogs and left them near her so she could treat herself. Neighbors had fed the dog, so there was a chance the trap might fail. “She wasn’t hungry, but she definitely hadn’t eaten a hot dog yet. So, she ran right away,” he said.

Fifteen days passed and the little dog, christened Scarlet, was left in charge of the shelter and began to recover emotionally and physically.

As frightened as she was at first, she became increasingly calm. “She couldn’t close her eyes until she was safe, and she finally did. She fell sound asleep all the way to the vet.”

Now Scarlet is happy to have new canine friends and companions. “She has a couple of foster brothers and he loves playing with them,” the lifeguard concluded.
