Derby, a husky mix dog born with severely deformed front legs, can now walk thanks to some of the latest 3D printing technology. American company 3D Systems has created custom prostheses for Derby that resemble the legs of a rocking chair so he can finally run for the first time in his life.
It all started when Derby was adopted by Tara Anderson, who works at 3D Systems. He was going to be euthanized until he was picked up by Peace and Paws, a non-euthanasia shelter that gave him a chance to live, which obviously wasn’t in vain.
Dog with deformed legs gets 3D prosthetic legs
The front legs of the Derby are deformed from birth

She could barely walk and often scratched and cut herself

He was going to be euthanized due to his deformed legs, but a non-euthanasia shelter decided to save him.

And when his 3D-printed prosthetic legs arrived, he was overjoyed.

It all started with his adoptive mother Tara Anderson, who works at 3D Systems.

They took CT scans of Derby’s elbows and designed custom prostheses

The prostheses will initially be low and will gradually rise as Derby gets used to them.

Derby now lives with Don and Sherry Portanova.
He is very excited about his new legs, take a look!
