Being a shelter dog is harder than it looks because although they receive love from their caregivers every day, there are instances where they go too long without finding someone who decides to adopt them forever.
One of them was Rascal, a pit bull from AMA Animal Rescue (AMA) in Brooklyn, New York (USA) who spent 4 years waiting for his opportunity despite being a very sweet and beloved dog.
Rascal sees volunteers and visitors coming and going every day, but the advantage of having waited so long is that he was able to analyze things and come up with a brilliant idea that would not go unnoticed.
“Mornings are always hectic at the shelter,” AMA wrote in a Facebook post. โAll the animals are delighted to see our volunteers; they look forward to their walks and look forward to their breakfasts. But Rascal has found a new way to get noticedโฆand we have to say, it works! โ, we added.
And what is this technique?
It turns out that instead of barking like the others, Rascal just rests his chin against his doghouse door and stays quiet until someone pays attention. A gesture that moves his caregivers even more, who love him very much but for the same reason, want him to find his happy ending soon.
โNo one can walk by his kennel and ignore that pretty face,โ AMA wrote on the social network. “It’s sad that Rascal has to come up with different ideas to get attention just because he’s homeless,” the shelter added.
Unfortunately, the pit bull has been adopted before, more than once, but has always been returned to the shelter, which saddens the team. โRascal LOVES people. He is what we call a people person,โ the organization noted on Facebook.
In addition, Rascal also likes to lie down in bed and take a good nap, as well as comfort in general. “His favorite thing in the world are his soft beds, and he dreams of becoming a loyal couch potato in a loving home. Rascal would thrive in a home with no other dogs and would do better with an experienced adopter who understands the importance routine and limits.”

Still, her caregivers don’t give up hope that one day a good person will decide to adopt Rascal forever. And they hope their idea really helps you.
