Dogs are highly intelligent and sensitive, they love their family unconditionally, and their loyalty knows no bounds. Despite this, there are people who unfortunately mistreat these helpless beings, regardless of the physical and psychological damage they may cause; which generally affects their behavior.
There are many stories of abused dogs, but the following is characterized by incredible physical, mental and emotional recovery.
Angel, is a dog who was rescued by PAWS Animal Rescue, after a dog sitter alerted to the poor animal’s situation.
The dog was looking at the wall for fear of humans
The dog was rescued from a home where she was abused, unfortunately the psychological damage she suffered was notable, as she was terrified of humans. Shelter volunteers took her to their facilities, where they gave her food, a warm bed and started treatment for the scabies she was suffering from.
PAWS Animal Rescue said in a post:
“Unfortunately, she had the usual abused look that many animals have upon arrival… she was bony and underweight, had mange and was covered in dirt.”
From the start, it was obvious that due to the mistreatment she had suffered in her old home, she had lost all trust in people. Angel was so scared of humans that when she met the shelter staff, she stood in the corner of her kennel, staring at the wall.
PAWS said:
“As soon as she got there, she found the nearest corner and buried her face against the wall and didn’t move.”
Shelter staff were very concerned about the dog’s behavior, but she was obviously so traumatized that she didn’t want to look around. They determined that Ángel suffered from an extreme case of anxiety, having endured several years of abuse.
A video captured the heartbreaking moment when Ángel arrives at the shelter and unfortunately performs the unusual behavior.
Rescuers were patient with the dog, and over the days she slowly came out of her shell. A week later, another abused dog was rescued by the shelter from a location close to where Angel had been found.
PAWS said:
“It was obvious from the way the two dogs greeted each other that they were both from the same place and were probably siblings as they were very similar in color and age.”
Since the arrival of his supposed brother, Ángel decided to change his attitude more quickly, he seemed more confident and he always wanted to be with him.
PAWS said:
“Angel welcomed his brother, now named Cliff, and clung to his side, either snuggling up in bed or just going where he was going.”
Cliff was kinder to humans and trusted them completely, displaying behaviors that Angel would slowly try to emulate. It seemed like his brother was teaching him that he could trust people, as he constantly approached the staff to show that everything was okay.
After a month, Ángel finally realized he was safe, among friends, and started interacting with staff and animals. Gone were the days of suffering that did not allow her to live in peace, and on the contrary she was happy to be able to play with her brother.
She has completely regained her trust in people and her psychological problems have definitely disappeared, something beautiful and moving to tell.
The shelter decided to share the incredible story on Facebook, attracting the attention of many users who even made generous donations for the two dogs. Thanks to the great repercussion that the story of the mistreated dog caused on the networks, many people wanted to adopt her, and she quickly found a home.
An Irish couple who belong to the group of collaborators of the shelter, were interested in adopting Ángel, because they wanted company for their dog.
AWS said:
“Michael and Theresa McGrath, a very lovely couple and longtime supporters of Paws Animal Rescue, contacted us to say they had space on their sofa for a companion for their rescued greyhound, Jaego, and wondered if ‘they could meet Angel.”
They made the corresponding trip to meet her; when Jaego saw her, it was love at first sight, although she wasn’t sure.
After a few games and a little more confidence, Angel realized that everything would be fine and that they were good people.
Finally, Ángel, now called ‘Cara’, has relaxed and found a loving forever home with a new family that gives her lots of love and above all will not allow her to suffer again.
