A young woman was reunited with her lost dog 19 days after a car crash that killed her mother and threw the dog out of a window.

Samantha Orr, 21, lost her mother Jennifer, 43, when their Jeep rolled 200 meters down a mountain in Pueblo, Colorado on August 7, 2018.

“We were driving and having a conversation and all of a sudden we noticed we were falling to the end of the road,” Samantha said.

Jennifer did not survive the accident and Samantha was taken by helicopter to hospital. But Bentley, their one-year-old golden doodle, disappeared from the scene of the accident.

Samantha began looking for Bentley after he was released from the hospital. No one knew if he had survived the accident, but she refused to give up hope.

The community helped search for the dog and a Facebook group called Bring Bentley Home began sharing information.

Bentley was spotted 16 days later in the Colorado Rocky Mountains, not far from the crash site. How he survived this long is a miracle.

“Bentley can be compared to a mountain goat over the last 19 days,” Samantha said. “After the fatal accident in which I lost my mother, Bentley was last seen running down the mountain after the accident. For the past three days, he has been seen well above the scene of the accident, lying on the rocks of the mountain ridge, looking at the wrecked Jeep, patiently waiting for his family to return.

Samantha walked for a long hour up the mountain to reach the place where Bentley was last seen.

After weeks of not seeing each other, Bentley was traumatized and seemed unsure and very reluctant to approach her. But Samantha called softly and patiently, and Bentley slowly moved closer to her until he finally rested in her arms.

“My heart is exploding,” Samantha wrote minutes after the reunion. “Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who shared, liked, handed out flyers, spread the word or sent words of support, or any of the millions of ways people have shown their kindness and kindness after the accident. There are so many extraordinary people in the world, I am grateful to you all.

She then shared that Bentley is doing well physically and mentally. “Bentley is fine, he’s a little thin and dehydrated. But other than that he has no injuries. Thank you to everyone who played a part in bringing this sweet dog home. I know for the last 19 days, God and my mother-in-law watched over him.”
