Mara Gonçalves Ern, a 74-year-old woman, decided to continue her life in a retirement home located in Itajaí, Santa Catarina, Brazil. The woman realized that her physical strength was no longer sufficient to complete the main household tasks. Therefore, at the beginning of February 2023, she moved into the residence, but due to her situation she had to leave her beloved dog in her old home.
His dog named Bob did not accept what was happening and began to behave strangely, it seemed that nostalgia took over the animal. Bob didn’t want to move away from Mara, so he did what he could and went to the nursing home, just to look for his adoptive mother.
As expected, the dog was unable to enter the house, but remained on the sidewalk outside the woman’s bedroom, howling to get her attention.

Bob was very persistent and stayed in the same place for 17 days until he was finally allowed to see Mara.
Apparently, Bob didn’t really like living with his other family members, since he had lived with Mara since he was a puppy. Incredibly, he managed to find her, and now that he knew where she was, he had no intention of leaving his best friend.
Mara commented in an interview with G1:
“I asked the neighbor to take care of him and my cousin to come and get him, take him home and lock him up, but my cousin went to get him and he went ahead, he didn’t want to go.”
Bob, as best he could, managed to escape again and returned to his old home, hoping to find Mara, but he did not achieve his goal. The woman discovered his escape and asked a neighbor to take care of the dog until her family arrived and brought him to safety.

Mara advised her cousins to lock Bob in the yard, but before that could happen, he escaped again and returned to the asylum. The dog even tried to bite Mara’s relatives when they tried to capture him, because he didn’t want anyone to ruin his plan.
Mara was very surprised by everything that happened, because Bob had never bitten anyone and was always very calm and peaceful. Fortunately, the nursing home administration gave Mara good news and offered her a solution to solve her beloved pet’s problem.
Bob began living in the residence’s kennel, where he receives daily visits and love from his beloved Mara. This arrangement made everyone happy because the family didn’t have to worry about Bob and the nursing home didn’t have to deal with the rambunctious dog.
Mara added:
“There is no money in the world to pay Bob’s worth. They’ve already tried to buy it, but I don’t sell, trade or give away. “I’m not going to leave him alone either.”
Additionally, it seems that Bob’s presence has positive effects on Mara, since the in-home psychologist, Bruna Innocenzo, celebrated his arrival. According to her, Bob’s company allows Mara to better adapt to her new environment and completely improves her self-esteem.

The psychologist finally said:
“So really, she considers it her new home, because the animal is nearby and it’s like therapeutic and psychosocial support.”
The other residents were also happy, as Bob adds fresh air to the environment as he always plays and attracts attention. The little dog has quickly adapted to his new home, he respects the rules, but the only thing he really wants is to be with Mara.
