The hostilities of the streets and the suffering that homeless dogs have to endure gradually shape their personality. These circumstances can lead to dogs whose trust in humans diminishes and their personalities become more withdrawn.
This is what happened to Chauncey, a dog who, despite being lucky enough to be picked up from the streets by the Spartanburg Humane Society in North Carolina, USA, did not pass a great time in this new stage of life.
According to information from The Dodo, she is a very tender and gentle “female dog”, but because of the things she has had to experience on the streets, she has become very withdrawn and introverted.
Although she could now be comfortable in the shelter, since she didn’t have to find food on her own or escape the cold, Chauncey went through something even harder: the pain of rejection. . And it is that this dog had to witness how her dog companions left with their families and no one wanted her.
The volunteers explained that they had a hard time convincing people to take this dog because people saw her as too shy.
Even that sadness the dog felt was reflected in a photo taken of her a few days ago in which Chauncey appeared to be poking her head through the bars of the shelter to see how the other dogs were being taken to their forever homes.
โChauncey is very shy until she meets you. So with all the barking and the constant activity at the shelter, she saw the world go by,โ said Angel Cox, CEO of the animal organization.
Angel added that she was a favorite of the other workers for her sweet and calm demeanor.
Although there were several failed attempts for them to adopt him, eventually a family fell in love with his personality and decided to take him with them. โShe sold out right away. She is a very affectionate dog and she won them over with her sweetness,โ explained the owner of the establishment.
What seemed like a sad story ended with a happy ending. “We were very happy that she found a beautiful home, but we still miss them when they leave,” Angel concluded.
