It is difficult to understand how a human being is able to abandon a family member, as if it were an object, which we throw away because we no longer use it. Unfortunately, this is what happened to Cupid, a cute dog who was abandoned by his family in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.

The dog’s family left the house, but apparently Cupid was not included in his plans and was abandoned outside of his former home.

Cupid didn’t know what was going on, all he understood was that it was his house and if he expected his family to go home.

The dog visited the area for weeks, but always returned to his safe place, his home, exactly at the main entrance or on the porch.

He was disoriented, had no water and no food, could not enter the house, did not know where his family was and even less why he was alone.

Fortunately, Janine Guido, founder of Speranza Animal Rescue, received a call from locals, informing her of Cupid’s situation.

Janine told The Dodo:

All they told me was that its owners moved and left it. I asked a lot of other people if they knew anything about the dog and they just said, they moved and abandoned it.

Without thinking twice, Janine went to the rescue of Cupid, saw him eating in a dumpster, and when she approached, he ran to her safe place.

Cupid ran desperately and scratched the door of his house several times to enter, but his family was no longer there. Janine’s heart broke when she saw the scene of how Cupid was trying to ask for help from the family who had abandoned him.

She tried different ways to approach Cupid, but he always ran nervously and walked away.

After several minutes of tracking down several alleys, Janine discovered how to gain her trust, all she had to do was tell him: “Everything will be fine.”

Janine said:

It sounds silly, but I swear he knew what I was saying. He literally approached and sat down and allowed me to tie him up.

She continued to explain everything that happened to Cupid during the trip to the shelter and seemed to understand everything.

As soon as he arrived at the refuge, Cupid conquered everyone and slowly got used to his new environment.

Janine said:

He is the most adorable gentleman since his arrival at the rescue center. You can say that he is still very confused. But it shows that he is happy to meet everyone who moves his tail.

Outraged by what happened, Janine decided to write a letter to the family who had abandoned Cupid and posted it on Facebook.

Since the shelter first published Cupid’s history, it has received over 50 adoption requests, but the dog is not yet ready. He must first complete his veterinary checks and the shelter must know what he needs, then obtain final accommodation.

Shelter staff say that although Cupid is not ready for adoption, many animals are, and motivate people to adopt with one of them.

Janine said on Facebook:

We know he’s super cute and has a sad story, but so are many others. We have so many amazing dogs that are available for adoption, please consider one.

Everyone is very optimistic and they know that Cupid’s luck will change soon, it will not be difficult to find a home for the sweetest boy in the shelter.

Cupid has proven to be a very loyal dog, we know that very soon he will find the perfect family, that he will never abandon him and will not give him all the love he deserves.
