A picture is worth a thousand words – and a photo of a dog named Henley outside certainly speaks for itself. Just one look at this dog and you will immediately feel a pain in your chest. The most striking thing is the fear Henley feels. Henley was scared – in fact, he was terrified.
But one day a man came along who wanted to make a difference in Henley’s life. And at first, Hanley didn’t even look at him, out of fear.

No one really knows how the first 4 years of Henley’s life went. But once he arrived at the shelter, it was clear that Henley was afraid of men. Apparently a heartless man had hurt her in the past.
Henley was treated horribly and then abandoned in his kennel. He was injured in the neck because of the necklace he was wearing around his neck. He tried to free himself from the leash. He was extremely thin and suffered from numerous parasites.

But Henley was lucky. A few days before his assassination, he was picked up by activists from the association and transferred to a host family.

Henley was flown to his new home in New York. Pilot Paul Steklenski offered to fly him in his plane designed for flying dogs. The only problem was that Paul, of course, was a man. And Henley froze in fear the moment he saw it.
“It was the most difficult transfer flight I have ever experienced,” Paul said. “When you have a dog that has suffered such abuse, and you can’t comfort him before the flight, it’s the worst feeling in the world.”
They managed to get Henley on the plane. And once Henley arrived at his destination, Paul continued on his way. But when he turned around, he saw Henley sitting and looking at him, as if to thank him for this kind gesture.

Paul couldn’t get this image out of his head.
A few weeks later, he decided to visit Henley at her host family. He hoped the dog would remember him and realize that he would never hurt him.
And he remembered it.

Not only was he no longer afraid of Paul, but he was so happy to see him! He finally understood that men are not bad people.
“He looks stunning now,” Paul said. “He has a wonderful host family.”
Henley is definitely in good hands and will hopefully find a permanent, loving home soon.
