Cats are the kings of the house and, like any good monarch, they have created a list of rules for all who live in their kingdom. We, miserable humans, must obey and be careful to abide by these rules until the end.
Here are the 9 commanders that your cat will be happy to remind you in case you put a foot out of line!
1. Wherever you are, I’ll be there
Your cat likes to be close to you, even if you do not interact all the time. He’ll scratch the door, meow for you to open it, but be careful not to invade his personal space once he’s in your presence!
2. New toys will be bought regularly
What may seem funny to your cat yesterday will not necessarily be fun today. But keep in mind that often an old cardboard box can be more entertaining than an expensive toy.
3. We will wake up at 4am,
Your cat will not hesitate to get you out of a deep sleep to feed him or play with him. Any resistance you oppose will be futile.
4. Say goodbye to your sleep
A kitten will always find a way to have fun in the middle of the night. Toys, meows, chasing his own tail … Fortunately, he will eventually get tired and fall asleep. But do not forget rule number 3!
5. Everything is mine, the laundry too
Your beautiful fresh, hot and clean laundry is like a drug for your cat. He will declare the nearest pile his throne, territory conquered.
6. Cuddling, of course (but only when it suits me)
Cats are independent animals by nature and will come alone to cuddle if they wish. It’s war if you try to touch them without warning or invitation. Your pet will enlighten you.
7. Empty, the litter will not stay
Cats are known to be very clean animals, able to “do their job” very neatly in a specific place – the litter box. This place should be thoroughly cleaned after each use, but that does not mean that your cat will not come back to clean up as soon as you clean the last one.
8. Move (or breathe) in your sleep, you do not have to
Once your cat has found his comfortable position and settled for the night, usually on or near your face, he wants to spend his peaceful night undisturbed. You must either try to fall asleep with severe discomfort, or give up the idea of sleeping completely (see rules 3 and 4).
9. I will eat all the unsupervised food
Do not leave food outside, even for a second, without watching it. Cats are faster than humans and you should always be on your guard.
