A family that was saddened by the disappearance of their pet, finds their dog in a rain pipe after several days
A Cincinnati family found their lost dog seven days after it went missing. Edgar is a four-year-old black retriever mix who often runs away from his house to enjoy the outdoors and run around. However, every time there is a storm, the dog becomes very nervous and looks for a place to hide to protect itself from loud noises.
Sean Ryan, Edgar’s father, told Today:
They are good boys, but they love to sneak around. They loosen up and go home alone in a night or two.
Family finds their lost dog after a week
Sadly, as a major storm hit the city, Edgar decided to sneak out of his house without leaving any indication of where he had hidden. The strong storms continued throughout the week, so the family thought that the worst had happened to his beloved dog.
The other dog in the house, Oscar, was too sad because his brother and best friend of his was no longer with him. Seven long days had passed since Edgar had disappeared, and sadly there was still no sign of any possible whereabouts of him.
One day, the father of the family decided to go for a walk with his dog Oscar, and while they were walking around, something incredible happened. The man managed to hear a slight cry that came from somewhere, so he decided to follow the sound to find out what it was.
The source of the crying came from a storm drain and the one who made the desperate sounds for help was his sweet stray dog.
All I could see was his eyes shining at me. He was frantic. He was happy to see me, but he was so desperate for him to get it out.
The dog was happy to be found, but at the same time he was terrified of being trapped in the pipe and wanted to do something to get out. Sean quickly decided to call the city fire department and within minutes they were on the scene to rescue Edgar.
The team came up with a plan, dug the area, and then created a hole so Edgar could crawl out of the pipe. Edgar was hungry, but since he had been in the water he was able to drink from it to survive, although he had several wounds on her body.
After taking him to the vet, the exams surprisingly revealed that Edgar was not in such bad health and they only had to undergo medical treatment. The vet treated his wounds, gave him IV fluids, antibiotics, and shaved various parts of his skin so his wounds would heal.
Edgar seemed to be a very brave and determined dog, so in a few days he was back to normal, as if nothing had happened to him.
He recovered quickly. In fact, he has already returned to the scene!
Edgar’s family feels guilty about what happened, so they plan to get GPS trackers for their two dogs. This way, both dogs can be free without having to worry about getting lost or trapped somewhere.
It is not known how Edgar ended up in the pipe, but it is believed that he entered there seeking shelter from the thunder and then could not get out.
I can’t believe how close I came to giving up. We walked that loop every day… I passed him, I don’t know how many times. That is what I hope people learn from this. Don’t assume and never give up.
Fortunately, this incredible story had a happy ending for Edgar, Oscar, and his entire beloved family.
