Maia is a charming black cat who has lived with her family since she was little. Nieves Morán, one of the family members, says she is very calm and gentle, and very easy to get along with. Although she really likes to be in the comfort of her home, she sometimes goes out into the backyard to get some fresh air.
One day, when the back door was open, Maia’s father noticed that she was outside, after a while he entered the house and snuggled gently next to her for a while; nothing out of the ordinary, until Nieves’ mother walked past his bedroom and saw him there. She then stopped in the living room and was very confused to see that Maia was also huddled there.
The family quickly discovered that the cat in the living room was not Maia, it was a cat the father had found in the garden and had now declared the family his new home.
Nieves told The Dodo:
“Maia and the cat just felt, they weren’t scared or anything, so I think they’ve seen each other before.”
Family takes their cat inside, finds it was already there

Everyone at home was surprised, they didn’t know where the new cat came from, and it was easy to confuse it with Maia; He was very nice and very comfortable with the family. It looked like he had been living there for a long time, and even Maia didn’t seem surprised to see him. You could come to believe that they knew each other.
They named the new cat ‘Jay’ and tried to find out if he had a family. They posted online, posted flyers and investigated whether he had a microchip. When no one contacted them, they decided to adopt him.

Nives says:
“After seeing that the cat wasn’t wild at all, they decided we were going to keep it, you can’t leave such a cute cat on the street.”

Jay has become the inseparable companion of Nieves’ father, and they spend time snuggling like on the first day, he also enjoys the company of his sister Maia. The family is grateful for the confusion that brought the adorable kitten home that day.

The family is sure it was the luckiest case of mistaken identity there is.
