An adorable pup named ‘Oko’ has taken on the role of ‘guide dog’ for his 10-year-old friend Tao, a sick golden retriever who sadly lost his sight to glaucoma last year.
Due to the outcome of his illness, Tao’s family decided to find him a furry friend to help him “see” the world. Oko met Tao when she was just eight weeks old and they formed the sweetest bond.
The adorable friendship caused a stir around the world. The impact this cute couple caused on the internet was so big that Tao’s Instagram quickly garnered over 57,000 followers.

In the different photos they share on their Instagram, we can see Tao and Oko doing walks and different activities, but of course we see Oko guiding his friend.

It’s understandable that people are obsessed with the heartwarming story, which is why they always comment en masse whenever a new photo is uploaded.
Tao had to have his eyes removed despite veterinary efforts. The poor man had to be operated on several times, and after the operations he made amazing and satisfactory progress.

Melanie Jackson (Mel), Tao’s mother, is very proud of her brave dog, who has endured everything to survive.

Mel learned that Tao had an eye problem last year when he was in excruciating pain and was taken to the vet. There, her doctor informed her that her adorable dog had glaucoma and that the difficult decision had to be made to operate on him and remove one eye.

After spending 11 months in recovery, unfortunately his second eye also had to be removed due to the disease which severely affected him.

According to the Ladbible, Mel said:
“Glaucoma is the buildup of fluid in the eye, but it has nowhere to drain. If you can imagine a migraine and multiply it by a hundred, that’s the pain I felt. That started in February 2019, we had a normal morning, everything was perfectly fine. But you know when your dog is not in his normal state.”

Mel continued:
“At night he was in the worst pain I’ve ever seen, so we took him to the vet. He was scratching his face, I said, ‘You’re going to think I’m crazy, but Tao lost his mind. seen.’ The pressure was so high in his eye that we had no choice but to remove the eye.”
Tao coped with his complications and despite his blindness, he recovered satisfactorily. He really wanted to continue his normal life.

Mel knew her dog would need special help to get on with his life, so she decided to ask a friend to help him out and play with him now that he can’t see.
Told me :
“We had Oko at eight weeks and they have formed the sweetest bond. Tao follows him through the fields and they sleep together.”

When Oko returned home, she immediately felt a special bond with Tao and knew his job would guide him for the rest of his life, and now they are inseparable. Oko has practically become Tao’s helm on the ship of life, and they have many adventures.

For her part, Mel wants to raise awareness about canine glaucoma with Tao disease, to prevent the same from happening to other pets.
The woman is working with The Kennel Club, who hope their research and work will contribute to the goal of prevention.

This group used Tao’s DNA “marker” to help identify other dogs that may be prone to glaucoma and treat them quickly.

This disease, although very serious, can be prevented if diagnosed and treated in time.

Tao will continue to enjoy his walks and happy days, thanks to the special and heroic work of his adorable “little guide”.
