Enzo is an adorable and eye-catching golden retriever; not only because he is handsome, it is also due to his rare disease called “somatic pigment cell mutation”, which gives him this black mark on his face, and which does not affect his health in any way.
Ella Castro, Enzo’s mother said:
“Golden Retrievers have a genetic background that favors black pigmentation, with a ‘modifier gene’ that makes them golden. Almost all dogs have this modifier, but Enzo has a little stumble in his DNA that erased the modifier gene on this part of his face.”
Golden Retriever with an adorable genetic mutation
Golden Retrievers like Enzo are characterized by a beautiful even coat, which makes this coat even more special.
Enzo is also a little taller than dogs of his breed, otherwise he is just like any other mischievous dog.
Ella told Bored Panda:
“He loves to greet joggers, bikers and other dogs, and he really seems to take offense whenever someone is too busy to say hello.”
On his Instagram account, Enzo amusingly describes himself as “Cream anglaise with a few freckles. Nap pro, sock stealer, walker, kiss giver and cuddle expert.”
For his part, Enzo does not seem to have discovered that he has a condition that makes him “special”, but he is completely happy, he wants to play anytime and make friends everywhere.
