Sara Morrow, who lives with her family and their beloved animals in a rural area of Oregon in the United States, has fun seeing the personality of her dog Murphy, a golden retriever who takes care of 5 cats, 21 puppies chicks, a rabbit and two pigs. The adorable leader of this motley pack always makes sure that everything is fine at home.

Things changed a bit when Sara considered bringing an adorable and mischievous English Setter named Archie into her family. With the new addition, Murphy’s hard work has gotten a little hectic than usual, but the clever golden knows how to keep his little brother in line.

Sara told The Dodo:

“Murphy loves bird hunting, he loves swimming, he loves when we have chicks, snuggling with our cat Toodles and hiking. He and our bunny, Delilah, love each other so much they each dug a hole on either side of the fence to come together. He’s a gentle giant who loves everyone.”

Despite all the extra work Archie generates for his older brother, he loves him with all his might.

Sarah says:

Murphy and Archie hit it off right away. Archie follows him around and Murphy plays the hall monitor. If Archie plays too rough with one of the cats… [Murphy] gets in the middle, lays down and lets Archie watch him.”

On some occasions, when little Archie’s energy is too high, Murphy immediately asserts his authority. Golden retrievers are characterized by being gentle at carrying objects with their mouths, so Murphy takes advantage of his skills to calm his restless sibling.

So, your best technique for stopping Archie in times of chaos is to use your soft, wide mouth as a punishment or distraction device.

Sara was never scared when she saw Murphy’s reaction, she is completely sure of her dog’s personality and knows he would never hurt any of his brothers, and although Archie is grown up now and her brother can no longer put his head in his mouth, she always finds a way to calm him down.

Sarah added:

Murphy is kind to all the animals we have. He never showed any aggression.”
