A cat is the cleanest animal, because it spends a lot of time washing. But sometimes the cat itself cannot put itself in order, so the owner must come to his aid.
Cat hair care
The main task when caring for a cat is grooming its fur. The essential part of care is grooming the cat.
As soon as possible, you need to accustom the cat to combing, so that it does not perceive your actions aggressively. After all, I want this everyday procedure to be enjoyable for both the cat and the owner.
To brush your cat’s coat, you will need the following items:
- Metal comb of medium length and density;
- Metal comb with sparse, long and rounded teeth;
- Metal comb with short and frequent rounded teeth;
- Massage brush with natural bristles and metal teeth;
- Gloves for combing;
- Scraper for removing matted hair;
You will also need:
- Conditioner for wool;
- Spray to remove tangles;
- Healing, moisturizing, defatting, restoring and volume-increasing shampoos;
- Conditioners, balms, antistatic agents.
This is all for sale in pet stores.
Note! Cats with very long and fluffy hair enjoy increased love, but not everyone knows how to properly care for such a pet.
Before combing, the cat’s hair must be scrubbed, sprinkled with talcum powder and the procedure must be started first with a rare comb.
You can divide the hair into partings and gradually comb the cat’s hair. It is necessary to comb the hairs along the entire length, while removing tangles.
You need to comb the tail, legs and collar area, with a comb. You can also use special gloves, because you will still be massaging your pet’s body. After the hairs unravel, it is necessary to proceed to the last, probably, main stage of combing – processing the wool with a massage brush so that it looks natural and neat.
Note! Periodically, owners of long-haired cats have to go to a special salon for a haircut. The correct haircut greatly simplifies the care of the pet and prevents problems with the formation of tangles.
Each area of the cat’s body should be combed in a certain direction:
- Chest – from paws to chin;
- Back – from tail to withers;
- Collar – in the direction of hair growth;
- Tummy and sides – to the tail;
- Paws- laying the cat on its back.
During and after brushing, you can use different sprays and conditioners to give your cat a healthy shine and not fly around the house.
If you constantly brush your cat, he will not be afraid of this procedure and will enjoy it.
Cat’s claws care
Cats need to grind their claws. It is very important to provide the animal with this opportunity. Various scratching posts (horizontal, vertical and even whole play complexes) are now presented in a large assortment in pet stores.
If the cat does not have a special scratching post, the animal will quickly use your favorite sofa or wallpaper for this purpose.
Claws that do not grind can break off in time, which is a rather painful process for the animal.
Once a month, you can trim the cat’s claws a little, using a special nail clipper for this purpose.
Before starting the procedure, be sure to treat the instrument and hands with an alcohol solution. Choose a time when your cat is calm and in a placid mood. Take the animal in your arms, lightly press on the pad of the foot so that the animal releases its claws.
Important! You only need to cut off the free edge of the claw without touching the living part, which is supplied with blood vessels.
If you are not sure if you can handle the procedure, it is best to see a specialist.
Eyes and ears care
Pet hygiene is a very important matter. Taking care of your cat’s ears, eyes and nose does not take long. The main thing is to carry out procedures regularly.
Problems with eyes and nose most often concern pets with a flattened muzzle. The cat’s eyes should be cleaned regularly to avoid the accumulation of dirt. For this purpose, you can use ordinary cotton swabs moistened with boiled water or 2% boric alcohol solution.
Lightly wipe the area around the eyes from the inner corner to the outer corner.
In order to clean the ears of the animal, it is necessary to properly fix the head of the pet, very carefully turn the ear inside out and wipe it with cotton wool wound on a stick. For cleaning, you can use a solution of hydrogen peroxide or petroleum jelly.
Important! Do not try to penetrate deep into the ear, as this can injure the eardrum.
If you notice profuse discharge from the ear of the animal, swelling or redness, contact your veterinarian immediately.
Caring for cat’s teeth
Cats, like humans, need to take care of their teeth. Tooth decay, tartar or plaque, gum disease – cause a lot of trouble for your pet. This is why it is so important to take preventive measures. From an early age, the kitten must be taught to examine and brush its teeth.
To clean teeth from plaque, you can use a clean bandage or cloth, as well as special pastes and brushes. To prevent the formation of tartar, it is necessary to periodically offer the pet a special dry food, the particles of which polish the teeth of the animal and prevent the formation of deposits on the tooth enamel.
Take care of your cat, pay attention to your pet’s hygiene and watch closely for any changes in his well-being.
