A volunteer rescue group called Meow Village in Aurora, Oregon (US), was contacted by someone who found a cat lurking on their porch and also had a litter of kittens. To help her, the woman who found her brought her food to gain her trust.
When the people at the shelter came to help, the cat was somewhat elusive and kept her distance from them. To ease the situation, the woman decided to set feeding schedules and thus approach the frightened feline.
Thanks to this, the cat managed to gain confidence and returned to look for food. One day, the woman found out she was pregnant again, so the rescue group provided a cage and took the cat to a safe place.
Homeless cat seeks help for her kittens
The cat, whom they named Buttercup, was taken to the vet for a checkup, after which Hilary, one of the shelter volunteers, took her into her home and decided to stay with her overnight for the to help them feel comfortable.
Hilary told Love Meow:
“I didn’t know if he had ever lived in a house before, or if he was wild or friendly. I was prepared for whatever would happen.”
Buttercup emerged from her cage and wandered around the place, seeking cuddles and care from her new adoptive mother, and the woman was delighted to see her reaction. Now the kitten wouldn’t have to spend another night on the street.
Hillary added:
“Around 1:30 a.m. (August 3), Buttercup woke me up squirming around the room. I stayed with her as she gave birth to six beautiful, healthy babies.”
On this occasion, the homeless cat was able to have her babies in a safe and clean place and in the company of a caregiver. Buttercup “bathed” her six cubs very well, fed them and was always looking for them.
Buttercup is a very protective mom and is usually always by the side of little cats. He is alert to any sound or movement they make, and when he needs to stretch or take a short break, he is always alert to any movement.
The mother cat was a little wary at first.
Hillary recalls:
“It took Buttercup about a week to give me the kittens. The first week I was removing them when I was trying to weigh them.”
Now the cat is more receptive with the help of its adoptive mother and appreciates the care and attention. Your little ones are more and more awake and enjoying their home.
Hillary added:
“The three kittens from his first litter were able to socialize and are currently up for adoption as well. Ten lives were saved and had a brighter future because a woman cared about him and he gave her trust.”
The six kittens have grown and are in very good health. Their eyes and ears began to open. The mother feeds them and keeps them clean.
Hillary says:
“It warms my heart that I can make her duties as a mother so much easier this time.”
For Buttercup and her babies, the harsh life on the streets is behind them. Now they have a warm home and lots of love.
