Betty Walter, a Houston-based animal rescuer, received a message on her cellphone from a friend about a dog that had been hit by a car and was on its way. Betty has a lot of experience rescuing and raising abandoned animals, but she was on the job and didn’t have the space for more dogs at the time.
Despite this, as the day progressed, Betty couldn’t help but think about what the dog would be like, and as soon as her shift was over, she went to where they told her that she had to see if she had already received help needed.
When she arrived, Betty saw that the dog was still there, along with another dog. The two animals, named Betty White and Allen, were in a grassy area away from the avenue and vehicles.
Homeless dog refuses to walk away from injured friend
Betty White was badly hurt, and Allen knew it, so he wouldn’t leave her for a moment. He sat there protecting her, fending off anyone who tried to get too close.
Betty told The Dodo:
“When I pulled up there were a few dogs in the distance [and] he chased them. When I got out of my car to look at her he ran towards me… I had to assure him I was there for help.
The woman was very careful and worked hard to try to gain Allen’s trust to help Betty. After a while, her friend who had warned her about the dog arrived to help her get Betty into the car.
Meanwhile, Allen was watching very closely, making sure Betty was safe. Once in the car, Betty and her friend brought Allen up as well. It was clear he wanted to go with her; they had to be rescued together.
Seeing their sweet bond, Betty knew she had to make room for the two best friends in her house to take care of them. She feared that if she didn’t, she wouldn’t find a carpool and they might end up separated.
Betty says:
“Here in Houston, it’s hard to find foster families for large dogs.”
The sweet dog had a broken pelvis and needed surgery. After the procedure was completed, he returned home to his new foster home to recuperate and be with his best friend Allen.
As the days passed, it became apparent to the woman how close Betty and Allen were. They love each other and that’s why Allen didn’t leave her when she got hurt. He just wanted to be by her side no matter what.
Adorable Betty still has a few medical issues to overcome before she’s ready to find her forever home. He needs heartworm treatment and a few sessions of physiotherapy.
Her rescuer estimates that she needs a few months before she is ready for adoption. For his part, Allen is ready, but he will not go anywhere without Betty. After all they’ve been through, Betty and Allen just want to live in a loving home where they can be together.
The woman says:
“They really like attention. They need someone to give them lots of hugs and kisses. To keep them safe and make them feel safe. Allen loves toys, [so] he wants someone one to throw the ball with and play with. Betty wants a bed to lay on and stay at your feet.”
Betty and Allen are the best of friends, and surely in no time these two adorable dogs will have the best home possible, where they can live their lives together.
