Although they live in a relatively controlled and safe environment, pets can still run dangers of all kinds, whether they live in the countryside or in the city. One of these risks are bee stings, which can be toxic to them, especially in dogs.
A single bite does not represent a danger, even sometimes it can be a little hilarious, because the allergic reaction makes their face swell. However, when we talk about swarm, they are bigger words, something that can have devastating consequences.
This is how recently in the United States, a pit bull was unexpectedly attacked by a swarm of about 800 bees, giving him hundreds of stings that ended up sending him to the hospital.
The incident occurred when a neighbor was trying to get rid of a honeycomb he had in his yard. According to Fox11, Tommy Baker claimed that while trying to replace his garden fence, he discovered the bee colony.
Chance, a 2-year-old pit bull and rottweiler mix, was the only one affected when the insects flew into the yard where he was. After surrounding him, he was stung at least 800 times on various parts of the body.
Brian Engen, Chance’s owner, took him to the emergency animal hospital, where he has been treated ever since.
“They are going to do blood transfusions to try to increase his platelet count,” Engen added.
In order to pay the bills at the health center, they decided to open a donation. “It started at about $500 initially, then kept going up and up. We are a small family with two children. It’s not something we can afford,” Egen told Abc7. They have currently raised over $10,000.
“He’s a lovely dog. He was never aggressive. He has always been happy and carefree. It is extremely difficult for us because he is part of our family,” he explained.
