A family residing in North Carolina, USA, found a homeless cat on the porch of their home and decided to shelter it. The cat was pregnant and when they entered her home she gave birth, so the family created a safe place for her and their babies.
One of the kittens was born as a Manx cat, meaning he was born completely without a tail and with issues in the back of his spine. The rest of the kittens were doing well and the family already had foster homes for them, but the tailless cub needed special care to improve its quality of life.
A tailless kitten finds its forever home
Stephanie Grantham, co-founder of the shelter, told Love Meow:
Manx kittens tend to have hindquarters problems caused by the deformation of their vertebrae, strengthening the hind legs is important in their development.
Upon arriving at the shelter, the kitten named Thumper began to receive the attention he needed to try and achieve normal development. Thumper is given several warm baths, appropriate medical treatment to help heal and prevent a number of infections, and exercise therapy.
With exercise, the tailless kitten learned to perform a rather curious trick, the feline learned to jump with its hind legs like a rabbit.
He didn’t want to use his hind legs, to work on it I jumped him in and out of a small box so he had to use his hind legs.
Regardless, the little Thumper is always in a good mood, is an excellent climber, and enjoys jumping around the room chasing after objects. He’s a sweet feline, he doesn’t know he has a problem, all he wants is to stroke his human friend and sleep on his lap.
Every time they stroke him he cranks up his purring motor and hugs his face, no matter who he is, he adores everyone he meets. Put simply, Thumper is just a cuddly baby who only needs a chance to find a home.
Fortunately, a caring family found out about the little Thumper’s story on social media and fell madly in love with the kitten. The family have two Manx cats as pets, so they knew exactly what the gentle feline needed to continue a normal life.
So the family decided to apply for adoption, because they wanted to keep the little Thumper and give him the life he deserves.
His request made me cry, the time and love they spent with their pets is amazing, I knew Thumper was perfect.
At eight weeks old, Thumper is living his life to the fullest, constantly playing, kneading his paws, and hugging everyone with a purr.
His adoptive family is ready to provide him with the loving home he has always dreamed of, and everyone at the shelter is delighted to see him thrive.
Little Thumper has finally arrived in his new home where he will surely have lots of love and lots of feline friends to play with.
