Two newborn kittens were found abandoned on the street. A caring person saw that their mother was not there and took them to a local shelter where they would receive the care they needed urgently. Hearing of the story, the Orphan Kitten Club offered to help.
Yige Zhao, coordinator of the rescue center’s satellite nursery, took care of the cubs. They were fed around the clock and placed in an incubator to help regulate their body temperature.
The little kitten named Frodo was the smallest, weighing just 77 grams. But thanks to the care and nutritious food he received at the crèche, he quickly recovered.
Kitten discovers strange ‘cat’ at nursery

Yige told Love Meow:
“They were so small that I had originally mis-gendered them and named them Frodo and Samwise, a dynamic duo from Lord of the Rings. It wasn’t until a few days later that I realized they were two girls.”
A few days after the cubs arrived, Yige received a call about orphaned cubs who needed special help and care. The mother of the puppies, a dog rescued by The Animal Pad, unfortunately did not survive.

Yige says:
“The puppies were born premature and looked very ‘gummy’ due to underdeveloped fur. They were transferred to the Orphan Kitten Club as we have experience with neonatal care.”
After a few days the kittens were transferred to a cat pen and the puppies were transferred to the incubator. For the next few weeks, both kittens heard squeaks in the background, but had no idea what it was.

A few weeks later, while Frodo was playing in the manger, he noticed a strange-looking “cat”. It was one of the puppies named Ulrich, the puppy was pretty sleepy and resting, on his side, Frodo was a little hesitant to approach, but he finally made an attempt and came to sniff.

Frodo sat down next to the sleeping Ulrich and came over to examine him. The little one rolled over his body and Frodo took it as an invitation for a few cuddles.
yig said:
“When she realized he was just a little fur ball, she decided it was safe to be friends.”

Frodo was very careful and gently put his paw on Ulrich’s stomach before turning to face her. Finally, and after a while, they fell asleep together holding hands. Apparently Frodo thought the strange “kitten” needed some affection.
Once the cuddling session was over, the kitten ran to her sister Sam to tell her all about her new friend.
Yige added:
“Frodo is two weeks ahead of Ulrich in development, making him a perfect match for now. Once Ulrich grows up, he will have to learn how to be a puppy by interacting with his siblings Jonas and Charlotte.”

The kitten area is next to the puppies, so they can usually see their sleeping canine friends. Of course, puppies enjoy the purrs of kittens, which helps them sleep soundly like the best lullaby.
Yige says:
“Sam and Frodo are some of the happiest and most loving kittens we have ever raised.”

Kittens and puppies have come a long way in the care of the nursery; the puppies recently opened their eyes for the first time, all are thriving fast and will soon be ready for a new chapter in their lives.
