This little kitten named Tulip was found on the streets of Ontario, Canada and was rescued when she was two weeks old. At just 10 months old, Tulip has already faced countless challenges in her short life, but she lives every day with a beautiful smile.
Tulip was suffering from an eye infection but was still smiling for the camera when the rescue center took a photo of her for its website. Little was known about the kitten, but this photo would be the one that would help her find a forever family.
Jenn and Chris had spent months looking for a companion for their cat Pinecone when Tulip’s smile appeared on their computer screen.
Jenn told The Dodo:
“His smile in his little publicity photo immediately attracted us.”
Kitten can’t stop smiling since she was rescued

So, the couple asked to see Tulip and were approved. To their surprise, when they went to see her, the kitten was still smiling, even at the shelter.
Their connection was instantaneous.
Jenn said:
“The second time we met her in person, we fell in love with both her looks and her personality.”

When the couple brought the kitten home, she continued to flash her sweet smile.
At first they assumed they would only see little Tulip’s smile in her announcement, and they couldn’t believe it when they saw her in person at the shelter, but they also couldn’t imagine that she would still smile that way once they got home.

Jenn said:
“Once we got home and started taking lots of pictures, we realized it was permanent. Her smile is still there and never gets old.”

The couple learned of Tulip’s eye condition, in which she is unable to blink like other cats.
Jenn told Love Meow:
“She has eyelids but she can’t close them. He can only blink with his third eyelid (nictitating membrane)”.
To prevent her eyes from getting too dry, Tulip receives drops and has her eyes cleaned twice a day to make sure they stay clean, moisturized and infection-free.
When the couple introduced Tulip with her cat Pinecone, the two had an instant connection. Pinecone soon assumed the role of her protective older brother, protecting her from harm.

Jenn said:
“Tulip is very attached to Pinecone, who is seven years older than her. They kiss and play all the time, and miss each other when you have to go to the vet.”

Shortly after Tulip’s adoption, she fell ill due to complications from a previous procedure. It was Pinecone who alerted Jenn in the middle of the night, and Tulip was rushed to the emergency vet just in time.

Even when she was taken to the vet, Tulip smiled to let her parents know that everything would be fine.
Jenn said:
“The realistic part of me likes to think her color has a lot to do with her constant smile. Then another part of me likes to think she’s always smiling because she knows that at 10 months she already has a lot overcome.”

When Tulip was fully healed three weeks later, she returned to create daily mischief with Pinecone and follow him around the house.
Now that Tulip is healthy, she loves playing with her toys, hanging out by the aquarium and teasing her big brother.

There is no doubt that Tulip is very happy, reminding us that things in life get better, no matter how difficult they seem at the time.

Jenn added:
“It’s hard to imagine our lives without her smile. She has added so much joy to our hearts and our homes. She really is a tulip, she always blooms again, and I think she knows it from her- even.”
