Otherwise, everything is like the rest of the cat breeds – you need to cut your cat’s nails at least 2 times a month, bathe periodically, no more than once a month, remove dirt from the ear earrings. Do not forget quality nutrition.

As with all cats, periodic vaccinations and antiparasitic controls are recommended.

Differences between the Korat cat and the Russian blue cat

Differences between Korat and the Russian blue cats

Many people, having bought a blue kitten, ask themselves the question – how will he become: a graceful Korat, or perhaps a graceful Russian blue, or maybe an ordinary mixed cat?

And all these questions arise because of the external similarity of these races.

Let’s see together, what is the fundamental difference?

  • Body: Korat cats, unlike Russian blue cats, have a stockier and stronger rounded body.
  • Representatives of the Russian blue cat breed are more graceful and have a straight, elongated body. The Russian blue breed also has a longer tail.
  • Head and ears: As for the shape of the head, representatives of these two breeds have completely different shapes, by which they can be easily distinguished in the future. Korat cats have a heart-shaped head with rounded ears at the ends. The Russian blue cat has a modified wedge-like head shape with pointy ears at the ends.
  • Eyes: The eye color of the Russian blue cat is always bright green, even emerald. The shape of the eyes is almond. The eye color of korat cats is usually also green, in very rare cases the amber color of the eyes of these cats is possible. In addition, the eyes have an expressive rounded or almond shape.
  • Coat: On the other hand, the Korat’s coat is smooth and unique and adheres tightly to the stocky body. The Russian blue cat has a thick coat consisting of a main topcoat and a fluffy undercoat.

How to distinguish Korat kittens and Russian blue kittens?

As for kittens, then you can only trust breeders from whom you acquire the animal. At first glance, it is quite problematic for a non-professional to distinguish kittens of one breed from another. Because the differences in coat and eye color are not visible until the age of six months.

Therefore, we recommend that you buy a kitten only from trusted breeders with good reviews.

History of the breed

Certain breeds occupy a special place in the world of cats, due to their centuries-old pedigree and the legends associated with them. These, of course, include the Korat race. These cats come from Thailand, known to people since ancient times, many centuries ago, and now are considered cats of happiness and good luck. Also, in Thailand, it has long been believed that Korat cats cannot be sold or bought, but only given as gifts.

However, that doesn’t stop modern Thais from selling pets to tourists without a twinge of conscience. But they present it as that very gift, and you just seem to be giving an unspecified amount of money in return. Of my own free will. Although the minimum amount is indicated immediately. On the contrary, Thai people give each other these cats as a sign of attention. So, if you plan to come to Thailand and, by the way, get a kitten for free, which in Europe costs an average of 400-500 euros and more, forget it.

These cats are mentioned several times in the old Cat Book of Poems, the first texts date back to the 14th century. In the cat’s native tongue, these cats are called si-sawat, or “happy blue.” Their smooth, graceful contours, stunning colors, and pensive, mystical appearance truly suggest thoughts of something otherworldly and elevated.

For the first time in the Western world, the Korat cat was introduced in 1959, thanks to the breeder Gina Johnson, or rather her husband, who brought back several kittens from Thailand. In Europe, the breed appeared in 1972. To date, Korat cats are officially recognized by all world associations of cat lovers.
