The long haired dog breeds are of all sizes. They are like any other breeds – good and faithful companions. The only difference is that these breeds require more time for grooming.
When choosing a dog breed, it is important to take into account factors such as the type of coat. Do you want a dog with short hairs that require low maintenance? Do you want a dog that does not lose hair? Or … are you looking for one of those long-haired dogs that are adorably ‘shaggy’?
Here is a list of 16 long haired dog breeds, arranged by dog size, from the smallest to the largest, that you will probably love.
Small Long Haired Dogs
Pomeranian

These delicate puppies stand out for their character and their sympathy. They look like miniature foxes, with an upper mantle of long and stiff fur and a very dense lower mantle, which gives them the appearance of a stuffed ball. Pomeranian can display various colors. Adults measure between 18 and 30 cm, depending on their type and their complexion. The ideal weight for adult is 2 – 3.5 kg.
Pekingese

The Pekingese is one of the many dog breeds created for the royal class in China. Since they were raised to live in palaces with their masters, they can be incredibly charming and loyal. The ideal weight of Pekingese is between 3 and 7 kg with a size of 25 cm maximum.
Coton de Tulear

This small white dog is little longer than tall, and has a long coat and looks similar to cotton. The Coton de Tulear dog measures about 25 to 32 cm tall in adulthood, weighing between 4 and 6 kg.
Löwchen

Of all the miniature dogs, the lowchen or Little Lion Dog is one of the highest: adults reach 25 – 33 cm and weigh 4 – 8 kg. Its long and silky coat has the characteristic cut of the lions: a long mantle with “mane” around the chest and the front quarters, and short in the hindquarters. The mantle can be of any color or a combination of colors.
Japanese Spitz

The Japanese Spitz is a small / medium sized dog that has the characteristic appearance of a spitz: thick and bristly fur, sly face and triangular eyes, and large fringed tail that curls over the spine. Adult males are 34-37 cm tall and females 30-34 cm; Its weight is around 6 – 10 kg approximately.
Lhasa Apso

The lhasa apso is a sturdy puppy with long hair. It is something longer than tall. It comes in different colors: gold, sand, honey, dark gray, slate, smoke, multicolored, black, white or brown. Adult males measure 25 cm and females somewhat less. They usually weigh 6 – 7 kg.
Medium Long Haired Dogs
Puli dog

The puli dogs are easy to recognize for their exclusive fur: long curls that can reach the ground, (they look like Komondor dogs). They can be black, rust black, white or several apricot and gray tones. Under the fur, this breed is robust and muscular. Adult males measure 40 – 44 cm and weigh 13 – 15 kg and females measure 37 – 41 cm and weigh 10 – 13 kg.
Skye Terrier

The Skye Terrier dog is an elegant small / medium sized terrier with an elongated and low body: the adult male of this breed is about 25-26 cm tall and about 105 cm from the nose to the tip of the tail. Females are usually a little smaller. The weight of adults varies between 16 and 18 kg. Its long fur is hard and smooth. It is shorter on the head and falls on the eyes, although it does not prevent vision. Their ears can be erect or droopy, and they have quite long hair. Their fur can be of different colors.
Bearded collie

The bearded Collie, fit and active, is a medium-sized dog with a woolly, hard and long fur that naturally divides sideways and is presented in black, blue, reddish brown, slate gray, all shades of Gray, brown and sand-colored with or without white spots. Males usually measure from 53 to 56 cm and females, from 51 to 53 cm. They weigh from 18 kg to 28 kg.
Shetland Sheepdog

The Shetland sheepdog or sheltie is a beautiful and elegant dog, a bit like a long-haired collie but small. He was originally born as a shepherd, because this dog is a tireless worker, but is currently more appreciated as a pet for its beauty and its small size.
The breed standard of the sheltie indicates that these dogs must not exceed 37 centimeters in height until the cross. The weight is not indicated, but is generally maintained between 6 and 8 kilos in the vast majority of specimens
Big Long Haired Dogs
Bergamasco Sheepdog

The fur of the Bergamasco Sheepdog is the most notable feature of this dog. It is fatty, long, abundant and hangs in a tangle. The color of the coat can be gray, black, mottled brown or light brown. It is a large and strong dog that measures in adulthood reaches from 58 to 62 cm in the case of males and from 54 to 58 cm in that of females. Males reach a weight of 32 to 38 kg and females, from 26 to 32 kg.
Chow Chow

This dog is short, compact and square in construction. Its tail curves over the loin. The inside of the mouth and tongue are blue / black. The chow chow can have two types of fur, hard or soft, and a wide variety of shades (black, reddish, blue, beige, cream or white). Adults measure between 48 and 56 cm and weigh from 26 to 32 kg. Adult females measure about 46-51cm and weigh from 20 to 25 kg.
Afghan Hound

The Afghan Hound is a dog of noble appearance and worthy of the name, this dog stands proudly and with elegance and wears a long and brilliant fur which constitutes its biggest attraction. It is a large breed with a height of 68 to 74 cm in adulthood in males and 63 to 69 cm in females. The male weigh : 26–34 kg, Female: 26–34 kg.

Briard

The Briard are beautiful and large dogs (although not heavy), with an attractive and distinctive coat. The most common colors are black and brown, although they can also be seen in slate gray. They are muscular, robust and well proportioned. His muscular necks make them stand their heads. Despite all the hair they have around their eyes, they have a phenomenal view. Adult females measure 58 to 65 cm and weigh 23–34 kg; the adult males measure from 61 to 69 cm and weigh about 27–41 kg.
Old English Sheepdog

The Old English Shepherds are recognized throughout the world for their long and woolly fur that covers their chubby body. His eyes seem to be completely covered by hair, but his vision is perfect. Komondor

The komondor is a breed of large dogs, from the family of shepherdsof. It has large and strong constitution and a very characteristic white coat in which the lower and upper mantle are entangled forming long dreadlocks. The adult males reach 80 cm in height and weigh about 50 – 61 kg; adult females measure 70 cm and weigh 36 – 50 kg.
