Il y a quelques annรฉes, en mai 2016, des agents de contrรดle des animaux ont trouvรฉ un pit bull de 6 ans nommรฉ Lindsy et l’ont amenรฉe au Babylon Animal Shelter ร New York. Quelques semaines plus tard, une fille a appelรฉ le refuge, expliquant que Lindsy รฉtait la sienne et sa famille, et qu’elle avait rรฉcemment disparu.
Kristin Siarkowicz, animal control manager at Babylon Animal Shelter, told The Dodo:
“The girl said she should ask her father if they could look for her.”
A lost pit bull waited years for his family to pick him up from the shelter

The family never showed up at the shelter and the girl did not call back. Lindsy had been dumped.

Although it was disheartening, the shelter staff thought Lindsy would quickly find another home because she had such a big personality.

Lyndsey Grosjean, a shelter volunteer, said:
“She is sweet, kind and calm. She loves to play fetch and break toys. She enjoys walks, sweets and being with her people.”
Unfortunately, no one was interested in giving this loving dog a home, and she has been at the shelter for over two years.

Lyndsey thinks her age and size may put people off adopting her.

She said:
“He’s not a pretty pup. The bigger and older ones just don’t get the attention they deserve from the public. Also, now that he’s been around for so long, people think there’s something wrong, when there isn’t. Those who have been there for a long time are stigmatized.”
Living in a shelter for a long time isn’t ideal for any dog, but Lindsy always seems to be in a good mood.

Lyndsey said:
“She’s done very well. She doesn’t seem stressed, she has a lot of people who care about her and take care of her. But that’s probably half the reason why he’s still around: he’s confused, has great kennel behavior and seems happy. It’s still really sad.”

Christine said:
” Lindsy never has a bad day. She’s always wagging her tail and ready to get attention.”
But every dog needs a family to care for and love it. If she manages to find that, Lyndsey said she’ll “cry tears of happiness.”

She said :
“This girl so deserves a home. Now he’s older and he needs to find his loved ones. It’s heartbreaking to see these dogs sit and wait and grow old with us. It’s not fair and it’s not not their fault they’re here. She’s a wonderful, happy girl, and there’s no reason she’s waited so long. All you need is an opportunity .”
