When a dog is returned to a kennel or association, it is usually because it did not behave well or its owners could not handle it, perhaps because of medical, financial problems or any other problem.
A dog is almost never returned because it is too friendly.
But unfortunately, this was the case for the dog Helena.
“Yes, she was definitely returned because she’s so nice,” said Karen Hirsch, spokeswoman for the Life Line Animal Association.
In March 2018, a man entered the kennel and wanted to return his dog Helena. The reason ? She demanded too much attention.
“It was clear that this man was looking for a guard dog. He also suggested that a woman adopt him ‘because they like petting and stuff more’.”
It was clear, even though Helena’s previous owner had returned her, that all this dog wanted was love.
โShe just wanted attention,โ Hirsch said. โIf you stopped petting her, she would ask you to pet her again.โ
She quickly earned the nickname โthe Scottish dogโ at the kennel.
โIt sticks to you like scotch tape.โ
The kennel shared Helena’s sad story on Facebook, and the reactions were exactly as they had hoped.
Two days later, Helena found a forever home who appreciated her need for affection and love.
Oh ! A happy ending for Helena, especially after arriving in an abandoned and starving kennel. Just a few months before its first owner returned it to him.
She can now receive all the love she deserves!
Pass on Helena’s story if you’re happy she found the perfect home for her.
