Alone and abandoned on the streets of Bali, Indonesia, was a puppy. His coat was brown in color and his eyes a deep hazel color. Crawling through a hole in the shoulder of a busy road, he came across the entrance to a sewer pipe and saw his only hope for shelter there. Little did he know that this makeshift house would be the beginning of his rescue story.
Aubrey V Lynn was working from home one day when she received an unexpected text from her partner, who had gone to the gym. She informed him that she had seen a puppy while walking out of her neighborhood and knew she couldn’t just leave him like that; I had to help him.
Fearing the dog would jump into traffic, they acted quickly and bought some dog food from a local pet store to lure Charlie (as the pup was named) out of the drain.

For more than 24 hours they waited anxiously for Charlie to come out, but he didn’t move. In the end, after waiting so long with no results in sight, it occurred to them to try something different, and the miracle happened.
Aubrey told The Dodo:
“We sat there for hours trying to grab hold of her. She wouldn’t come out, so we left, got back on our scooter and she ran towards us.”
Charlie ran towards them! It was almost as if she had known all along that these two people were there for her and that nothing else mattered; she instantly calmed down and allowed them to get close enough to take her with them safely.
Without discussing it first, Aubrey V Lynn and her partner knew that Charlie was now part of their family. Although she lived alone for so long, without contact or familiarity with humans or domestic environments, she adapted very well to being welcomed by them; Within days, you could tell how much she wanted to be loved again, as Lynn described, “You could tell she just wanted to be loved.”
These days, when you catch Aubrey V Lynn with her partner running around the garden playing fetch with Charlie, they can’t help but marvel at how this little pup fits into their lives; neither of them expected it to be like this, or that they would become such a close-knit trio, but here they are, enjoying each other’s company.
