This man finds a stray cat while driving through Morocco and takes him on the most incredible road trip of all.
Mogli is a kitten who started her life as a little orphan on the streets of Morocco, but thankfully she now gives a whole new meaning to the term adventurous cat. The little cat has already traveled more than a dozen countries with her adoptive father, Martin Klauka, 32, from Germany. She travels in the tank bag of her Honda XRV 750 Africa Twin motorcycle, and there are still plenty of other faraway places to cross off her wish list.
Martin would never have imagined that he would end up adopting a kitten. He always considered his dream of a more nomadic life seemed to be separate from having pets, but on a trip with friends through Morocco in March last year, Mogli found it. and never let him go alone again.
Martin told The Dodo:
We were sitting in the streets of a small town when a malnourished kitten with an injured tail approached us. I called her and instantly she came, lay down in my arms and snuggled up. “She fell asleep. Locals who had seen her before told me that her mother had been hit by a car and that she, being too young and weak to fend for herself, would probably die in the street.
A man found a street cat and took him on a road trip
Soon, Martin realized that the little kitten was too tired even to lift his head, and in that moment, he knew he couldn’t leave her. And although he was teased by some people for touching a flea stray cat, he wore her for the rest of the night, sneaking her back to his hotel room to give her at least a night’s rest. in the streets.
It was clear to Martin that adopting an animal, especially one so young and fragile, would be a huge responsibility, one he wasn’t sure he wanted to take on. So, he waited to make a decision the next morning.
Martin remembers:
When I woke up, I was still full of doubts, but I was already in love with this little rugrat, so I decided to put her on the bike to see how she was doing. “Definitely not the good place for a cat,” I thought, but it was going to be either that or almost certain death on the street.
Although initially wary of the bike, Mogli seemed to calm down after only half an hour on the road. It seemed that Martin had found his new travel companion.
In 2017, the man decides to quit his job and go on a road trip. Now, with Mogli by his side, he has crossed from the Mediterranean Sea to Iran and then to the United Arab Emirates, crossing 10 countries on his way, finally arriving in Dubai in December.
During this time together, Martin and Mogli quickly established a routine. While traveling, Mogli stays safe in his adoptive father’s bag, sometimes sticking his head out to enjoy the scenery or meowing in protest if Martin changes the sidewalk to a bumpy path.
When they are in crowded public places, Mogli sits on his father’s shoulder to observe everything around him, and when they arrive at his camp, Mogli freely roams the place, exploring as he pleases.
The man adds:
Obviously that’s what he enjoys the most, and after checking with me several times to make sure we’re really staying, he goes exploring for hours, sometimes even a whole day.
Each time they arrive in a new location, Mogli performs a ritual of checking for dangers, such as cars and dogs, and getting into a safe space. The little feline’s observation skills have come in handy for his father, especially when he loses sight of the tent and Mogli is able to bring him back.
Martin assures:
I’m happy with where I am in my life and happy to have led it. I’m happy to have been through it all.
Now that they have completed the first leg of their journey, Martin is working in Dubai and plans to visit Pakistan and India this summer. For now, he and Mogli are taking a well-deserved break from their travels, but there are sure to be plenty more adventures to be had together.
