A man accompanies a rescued kitten through his recovery process, then ensures he’s happily ever after.

Sam is a gray kitten who arrived with his siblings at Mini Cat Town, an animal shelter located in the city of San José, California. The little girl was only four days old, still had her umbilical cord attached and was relying on special care to survive.

For this reason, Laura Malone, director of the shelter, decided to take in the kittens and began to care for and feed them throughout the day.

The kittens hadn’t even opened their eyes, but they seemed very happy in their new home, as they were warm and their bellies were full.

Laura told Love Meow:

Sam had a favorite spot in the back corner of his nest where he slept on his back.

After a few weeks, Laura noticed something strange about little Sam, as she began to lose weight and her appetite decreased dramatically.

Kittens at this age are too fragile and their situation can change in the blink of an eye. Sam was sick and lacking in energy, so Laura’s husband, better known as Foster Dad, came to help her.

Laura commented:

She loves nothing more than comforting people and animals when they’re feeling down. And he promised Sam he’d hold her all the time until he felt better.

Foster Dad put little Sam in a blanket and watched her all night, until she fell asleep in his arms. With her care and good attention, she assured Sam that she loved him, and little by little she began to act like herself.

After several visits to the vet, fluid therapy and a change in his diet, Sam regained his energy and was able to get back to normal. He was eating better and starting to gain weight, he was definitely progressing as everyone expected.

Every time Sam came home from his treatments, he jumped into Foster Dad’s arms, getting all the hugs he promised.

The man spent a lot of time with his little Sam and always made sure she didn’t miss an ounce of love.

When Sam came back to her brothers, she immediately started running around the room like she was hers or queen of the place.

Laura added:

She was active, playful and really enjoyed spending time with the other kittens. Sam was the smallest of the whole team, but she had a lot of personality.

Soon, Sam turned out to have a very special bond with his sister Jo, as they could be seen hugging and honing their cat skills.

The kittens made it clear that they couldn’t be separated, they always played together, so everyone knew they would like to live together in a house. Luckily, when the kittens were ready for adoption, they found the perfect family.

His new family had lost their pet and on the very day of his death they discovered Sam and Jo and fell head over heels in love.

The family wrote on Instagram:

It was love at first sight for us. They looked exactly like our beloved Bootsie, and after many tears we knew we had to have these girls.

Now the kittens named Bear and Bunny have become a pair of lovely cats, and Bear is not so small anymore.
