In a thrilling act of bravery, a man dove into a half-frozen lake to rescue a dog in distress. The video of the dramatic rescue, captured in Sloan Lake (Colorado, USA), caught the public’s attention on social media, racking up more than 1.7 million likes.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident happened when the dog, a husky, chased geese into the lake. Spectators, helpless and terrified, watched the ice quickly run out. Eventually, the dog fell into the water and began to fight for its life.
We called 911 and firefighters were on the way. We weren’t sure his rescue was quick enough,” comments Instagram user Holly Morphew, who shared this video.
At that critical moment, a man identified as Jason Skidgel unthinkingly stripped off some of his clothing and jumped into the freezing water to rescue the dog, which, it should be mentioned, did not belong to him. Breaking the ice with determination and with his bare hands, he managed to reach the dog and helped him swim to shore. Skidgel’s brave action was caught on camera.
The witnesses cover the hero with their clothes
Following his heroic deed, Skidgel released two additional videos showing viewers helping him warm up by covering him with their jackets after he emerged from the freezing water. Several of them also took care of the dog’s well-being and helped out.
These images went viral on social media, receiving a large number of comments praising Skidgel’s speed and courage. Users also took the opportunity to remind them of the importance of leashing dogs near frozen bodies of water, emphasizing how this situation could have been avoided if the dog’s owner had followed this precaution.
According to The Indian Express, Skidgel expressed his gratitude for the kind words and assured that he and the dog are doing well.
