A young cat found at a construction site has undergone an incredible transformation after just a few weeks in a loving home.
A little over a month ago, a scruffy and malnourished kitten was discovered behind a tire at a construction site. She was emaciated, infested with fleas, and had patches of fur missing. Researchers quickly reached out to Deej, the co-founder of Inked Kittens Club, a kitten rescue organization, for urgent help.
“As soon as she arrived at my house that afternoon, it was obvious that she was very sick,” Deej shared with Love Meow.
The kitten, named Furby, used every ounce of her strength and determination to eat and fight for her life. Even after exhausting several of her nine lives, Furby’s spirit remained intact. He purred constantly and kneaded her little paws as if relieved to finally be in a safe and loving environment.
At just seven weeks old, Furby arrived with a myriad of health issues, including panleukopenia, a serious condition that only 10 percent of kittens her age survive.
But Furby was determined to defy the odds. With intensive daily care, including fluids, syringe feeding, and medication, she began to improve. “When she started eating on her own, I knew we were nearing the recovery stage,” Deej said.
For a while, Furby clung to her bed, only moving to use the litter box. Then one day, she came out of her shell and decided to trust. “The moment she chose to be friends, we’ve been inseparable ever since.”
Furby’s remarkable recovery
Furby had lost a lot of hair on her chest, legs, and tail due to severe malnutrition. As she began to gain weight, her fur slowly began to grow back, revealing her playful and cheeky personality.
“She has two expressions: either a grumpy, flat look or a funny beeping look with her tongue out. “The more I watch her, the cuter and funnier she gets,” Deej said with a smile.
With her newfound energy, Furby began to play and seek out even more attention. “She now prioritizes pets over food. If I don’t pet her enough, she reaches out to grab my hand, while sticking her tongue out in an adorable way. She’s a little kitty with a huge personality.”
Once Furby fully recovered, she was thrilled to have constant playmates after weeks of isolation. She quickly bonded with other cats, showing them how to play with toys and learning social cues.
“Her favorite game is still chasing me around the house. She loves her stuffed toys, especially her stuffed snake, which she “battles” every night.”
Furby is blossoming into a happy, playful cat
At about three months old, Furby’s ear tufts are getting longer as she gets older, and her once-bald spots have filled in beautifully. While she still loves to chase feet around the house, she’s made a lot of progress in terms of socialization.
It’s hard to believe that just a few weeks ago, Furby was a shaggy kitten with much of her fur missing. Today, she’s blossomed into a lively, beautiful young cat with enough energy to light up a room.
“She still has a big, silly head and the most unique fur, but I am completely obsessed with her,” Deej proudly shared.
