Sometimes we make bad decisions even though we want to do what is best for everyone. We want to believe that the family in this story also made this mistake. The relatives of this family died four years ago, leaving behind their old cat. But when the family entered their relative’s house, tidied up the house and tried to close it, they saw the cat hissing at them.
This is a natural behavior, knowing that the cat has just lost its owners and has been traumatized. The family didn’t want to take the 8-year-old cat to the shelter, thinking he wouldn’t be able to find a new family and would likely die at the shelter, given his antisocial behavior at that time. That’s why they left the cat where it was.
And for the next four years, they paid the bills and the house rent, visiting the house every few days to feed the cat, but otherwise leaving it completely alone. But especially now that you think about what happened to the cat, you might even say that what they did was worse than killing the cat. Yes, they spent their time feeding the cat and cleaning the litter box. And the cat did not live on the street, but was extremely affectionate.
After a while, people started hearing the story of this poor cat named Sparky.
Eventually, an animal shelter volunteer and another shelter volunteer sitter heard the story of this neglected old cat. The family decided to sell the house. The cat therefore naturally had to evacuate the house. That’s when they decided to take him to the shelter, thinking maybe he could be adopted… which they should have done much sooner.
Fortunately, the loving and dedicated staff at Forgotten Felines of Boston were ready to help. However, as he had to spend four years alone in the house, Sparky became suspicious and afraid of people, and his feathers became completely matted and tangled. They had to be very slow to teach him to trust people and, to be honest, even the shelter staff weren’t sure at first if it would work. But they didn’t want to abandon the cat, and one of the volunteers made it her main goal to help her rediscover her heart.
When the female volunteer sat down next to the cat, it hissed at her in a low voice. But the woman still hasn’t given up. He began to slowly scratch the cat under the chin. The woman says the cat’s hissing was fake and it made no other aggressive movements towards her, it just sat with its front paws under her body. The scared cat was sitting in a corner, this place has been his refuge for several years. However, shelter workers were eventually able to put him in a carrier bag and then took him to the vet. Here she spent the whole day being pampered and also underwent a detailed examination to fully understand her health issues.
It turned out the cat had a few rotten teeth that had to be extracted because he hadn’t had an annual exam to maintain his health. After the examination, they also found that one of his teeth was loose. In total, 8 teeth had to be extracted. He had a testicle that remained in place because he was not neutered. They also shaved off any stray hairs. The poor animal must feel so much better after all this care!
Sparky was then placed with a foster family who would work slowly and patiently to gain his trust. It had been a long time since the cat had felt the kindness of people, the comfort and friendship they gave him. I believe that his adoptive mother will provide him with everything he needs as he desires, and I hope that he will return to the safe and happy life he had before the death of his long-deceased parents.
Sparky has been able to make great progress faster than expected and is ready to find a forever home. The organization’s staff was delighted that Sparky accepted the love of his foster family. But they were also aware that the forever home they would find had to be filled with love, understanding and patience. Luckily, they managed to find a wonderful family willing to do whatever they could for this poor old kitty. After sharing Sparky’s story online, a family contacted them and offered to open their hearts to Sparky. We are so happy this story turned out this way! Sparky now lives with a kind young couple who are happy to welcome him into their new family. The family has 2 other cats and they are also very excited to meet Sparky.
Sparky finally has a new life. And now his name is Egg. It must be said that it is an appropriate name given that so many people have brought it out of its “shell” by giving it the attention it needs. After four years of abandonment and neglect, the poor cat is living the life he deserves. According to his new family, he slept with them. And he loved playing with the toys they bought him.
