Prohibited cat food

Last Updated on March 3, 2022 by Pets Feed

If you live with a cat, it is important that you know all of these foods that are good for their body and avoid giving them products that they will not be able to digest properly. When a cat eats unsuitable food, it may feel indigestible, vomiting, diarrhea, or even develop an illness.

For this reason, it is essential that you know what foods are prohibited for cats and that you therefore know what you can give and what is not to your pet. In ‘ Pets Feed ‘, we have listed for you these foods that you had better keep away from your cat’s muzzle, take note!

10 prohibited foods for cats

Prohibited cat food

1. Salty foods

Salt is not good for cats because, taken in excess, it can eventually accumulate in the kidneys, which poses problems during drainage and elimination of toxins; In addition, excess salt can also cause hypertension. For this reason, it is not recommended to give foods that contain a lot of salt like sausages, for example, to these animals. Low salt turkey or ham can be given to your pet from time to time.

2. Milk and dairy products

Once the cat has passed the lactation period, it should not drink more milk as it becomes lactose intolerant. If you give milk, your cat may suffer from digestive problems such as vomiting, diarrhea, etc.

3. Lemon and vinegar

Lemon and vinegar acid can harm our best friend and cause abdominal pain as well as vomiting and malaise.

4. Onion, leek and garlic

Long-term consumption of onions and leeks can cause high toxicity in cats and dogs. Likewise, it also promotes the appearance of other pathologies, such as anemia. However, more and more studies show that controlled doses of garlic can be excellent natural dewormers.

5. Chocolate

It is another of the big bans in cats and dogs because it contains a substance toxic to these animals (known as “theobromine”). Chocolate can speed up your cat’s heart rate, cause vomiting and diarrhea, failures in the body, and even lead to death.

6. Avocado

It is a very high-fat fruit, so you should not give it to your cat as it can cause stomach problems and even pancreatitis. In general, you should not give fatty foods because they do not digest them well and cause serious intestinal problems (candy, pastries, fried foods, sauces, etc.).

7. Nuts

These are ingredients which are also fatty but which do not make them well assimilated by the stomach of the animal, which can cause renal failure, diarrhea and digestive problems.

8. Raw fish

Tartar, sushi, or any recipe that includes raw fish should never be given to a cat because it contains an enzyme that causes vitamin B deficiency in the animal’s body. Lack of this vitamin can cause serious problems such as seizures and even go into a coma. In addition, they can also contain bacteria that cause food poisoning.

9. Candy

We have already said that food containing fats should not be given to cats and that sweets are part of it, but in addition, it is not advisable to give this food because it can lead to liver failure in animals .

10. Grapes and raisins

They are very harmful to cats because they can cause insufficiency. The animal does not need to eat a lot as small doses also affect it negatively

Other aspects of cat food

In addition to the foods prohibited for cats that we have just listed, you must take into account other aspects related to diet so as not to harm your cat.

Never give him bone or fish: he could choke and even damage his organs by perforating the intestine or blocking the intestinal tract. So be careful with what you give your cat!

Plants like lilies, poinsettias (the Christmas plant), ivy or oleanders are poisonous plants for cats, so avoid having them at home because the animal will be attracted to them and will eat them.

Do not feed your cat dog food as the nutritional needs of both animals have nothing to do with it. Cats need an amino acid known as taurine which, if not taken in the right doses, can cause serious heart disease.

The tuna people eat is not good for cats. It is not a toxic food but it lacks taurine so do not give your pet this product because it will not provide the essential nutrients it needs to be strong and healthy.
