The kitten cannot jump, its limbs refuse to obey it. He moves differently from other cats; he discovers the world a little more slowly. Despite the rare disease, he managed to overcome all the difficulties and began to enjoy life. It was enough to help people who have a big heart for animals.
It was taken from the old lady. She had too many cats
Before, he lived in a house with too many cats. The woman who took care of it received stray animals, but she had no money to care for them. Despite the roof over their heads, they were neglected, suffering from herpes virus (RVF), conjunctivitis and diarrhoea. They haven’t been to the vet. Eventually, she had to move out of her neglected apartment, but she couldn’t take her pets with her.
All of her cats were at risk of being taken out of town and euthanized. Animal lovers were outraged by the situation and tried to find homes for at least some of the neglected animals. The cat shelter took in three siblings, two of whom suffered from neurological motor disorders. One of the purrs was the beige cat Babar, the smallest and most neglected of the whole gang. Ribs were visible under his matted fur, he was having trouble breathing, and a festering secretion was leaking from his nose.
โHe was the smallest and sickest of the three. He was skin and bones under matted fur,โ said a shelter volunteer.
Babar and his brother Minutt are the only ones from a litter of five kittens to suffer from ataxia. They move in the same slow, penguin manner. They have motor coordination problems. They cannot jump or run. They can’t get on and off the couch.
โBabar suffers from feline myotonia, an inherited neuromuscular disease that affects the muscles. This is a rare condition where the muscles need more time to relax after a contraction,โ the volunteer said.
Just when they thought he was on the mend, another disease attacked him
After being picked up by the shelter, the three sick siblings were given antibiotics and their recovery began. Babar continued to have a problem with a purulent runny nose, so he was prescribed another antibiotic.
After a few days, he started vomiting profusely. He couldn’t swallow a pill without regurgitating it, which slowed down the treatment even more. He continued to suffer from viral rhinotracheitis. He had to go to a veterinary clinic where a more invasive treatment was undertaken. Fortunately, that was enough for him to slowly recover. Babar regained his appetite and strength. The happiness did not last long, as it turned out that he was affected by more health problems.
His breathing difficulties were caused by pneumonia. He felt ill, had a high fever. During the intubation attempt, the vet discovered a malformation of the larynx which was narrowing and making it difficult to breathe and causing him to cough. That’s why he got aspiration pneumonia.
The family loved him as he is. He thanked me in a unique way
The situation was dangerous, but competent veterinarians managed to cure Babar. He was still battling congenital conditions, but doctors knew how to keep them under control. Babar was ready to find a new home. He was kind, sociable and calm. He deserved a family that would love him despite his special needs.
“Sometimes he gets in our legs to get attention or karma, so you have to be careful not to step on him,” the shelter staff wrote.
He sought people’s sympathy, he wanted to be adored. Fortunately, he managed to catch the attention of his family, who decided to adopt him. They immediately fell in love with the animal and believed that its difference only added to its charm.
โHe walks like a penguin in a slow, jerky manner. He can climb out of the window using the handrail or get up and down from the sofa with a little help,โ explains the foster family.
He became more active and more playful. Despite motor coordination problems, he walks every day, perfecting his mobility.
“He started having fun and following the other cats around the house.”
He’s a nap master. It is his favorite activity next to pleasure. He has the soul of an older cat.
“He doesn’t wash and likes to be combed instead. He often falls asleep with his mouth open when we hold him in our armsโ.
“He can’t push his hind legs out to jump or run, but he’s very resourceful and goes where he wants.”
Although he moves slowly, that doesn’t stop him from exploring the world. He does everything at his own pace. He loves other cats, willingly follows them and plays with them. Since they are more mobile than him, they motivate him to be physically active.
โ He likes feather toys, but loves sleeping in the sun or watching the day go by.
โHe has found the ideal home and will be able to enjoy a life full of sweetness and security. She’s starting a new chapter with her feline friends and loving people. ยป
Thanks to animal lovers, he was saved, regained his health and was able to start enjoying life. He was ready to find his place in the world, and he finally did when he found a loving family who understood his special needs.
