A long-necked dog who is incredibly close at 25cm and looks more like a giraffe than a dog, she was thankfully rescued and is now very happy with her new family.
Ketama is a Spanish greyhound breed; he is two years old and his neck is very striking. Although this breed is characterized by its natural length, it is closer to the size of a male.
Unfortunately, this breed has fallen victim to the cruelty of some humans. They use them to help hunt animals and participate in races, and when they are no longer useful, they dispose of them.
The long-necked dog is adopted
Fortunately, Monique Morsink and her partner Martijn ten Voorde rescued Ketama and brought her to live in their home in the Netherlands.
Talking about her impressive dog, the woman gave some details about her personality and physical characteristics that describe her as a bit of a peculiar dog.
Monique told LAD BIBLE:
“For her breed, she is an excessively long girl. He is longer than most females of his species I have seen. He has the measurements of a child.”
He also added that when they are walking on the streets, it is inevitable to attract people’s attention because there are not many races like Ketama. In addition, he must wear several leashes and a safety harness; because she is very thin and agile, she can easily escape.
The woman assured that Spanish greyhounds are often abused in their homeland (Spain), if they do not turn out to be useful hunting tools.
Monica said:
“I discovered that there is a big problem in Spain. Greyhounds are used for hunting, which is a great tradition. But if the dogs are not good enough for the hunter, they are killed or abandoned.”
Ketama was found by Monique through a network of rescue centers specifically for Spanish Greyhounds, who work tirelessly to save them from mistreatment. The adorable “giraffe” turned out to be very mischievous, silly and funny, and her mother is happy that she can be the ambassador of the Spanish greyhound.
It is hoped that due to Ketama’s unusual characteristics, people will be more aware of this type of animal and its situation in Spain.
Although Ketama can be a little cheeky and forward at times, Monique finds her a joy to have in the family, and she just wants some attention.
Monica commented:
“Ketama is very present in our house; she always wants to be with you. He is also very smart and will do anything on a whim. She can be very mean. If you’re doing your thing and he thinks he deserves more attention, you can see in his eyes that he’s going to do something wrong.”
Ketama is usually looking for something to grab and if she finds it, she throws it in the air and starts playing, but she always watches if she is being watched. She’s quite a smart dog, and she uses all her cunning to achieve what she wants at all times, and even to trick her parents.
Monica added:
“When he was having breakfast, he put his ball under the sofa and started crying. When I got up from the table and knelt down to catch the ball, he immediately ran to the table to steal my breakfast. It was a really fun time.”
Undoubtedly, this couple’s big heart has completely changed Ketama’s life, and now he has the opportunity to be happy.
