Mike Flanagan decided to adopt a beautiful Rottweiler, but his stepmother Peggy Allen didn’t think it was a very good decision, because although this 80-year-old grandma loves dogs, due to her age and because of her small size, the size of a Rottweiler posed a fall hazard to her.
Peggy is also known as Grammy and when she met Gus she said:
“A rotweiler? Well, I have to admit that I’ve always preferred companion dogs.”
However, Mike had a feeling that a very good relationship would emerge between the two of them in which no one would be hurt.
Rottweiler shows grandma he’s a watchdog too
Mike told The Dodo:
“Grammy likes her peace and quiet, she likes having her space. They didn’t seem to fit in, but we were all surprised at how quickly they bonded.”
Several months passed and the little pup had grown into a 9 month old dog weighing almost 100 pounds.
Grammy’s life was changed by the loss of her husband and Gus, although he didn’t know she had come home to attend the funeral, he felt she needed his support and c that’s why he decided to do something about it.
Mike said:
Gus was by her side throughout this visit. He fell asleep next to her bed. He waited outside the bathroom door. When she left and came back , she was happy that Grammy was back.”
Grammy was amazed at the attention Gus was giving her.
Mike said:
“When my wife said, ‘Mom, Gus really loves you. Grammy casually replied, “There’s something between us.”
Mike was right, between this grandmother and Gus a very strong and special bond developed. Gus now goes by the nickname “Certified Loverbutt”.
Mike said:
“Gus has adapted incredibly. We’re an outdoors-loving family, hiking in the Catskills or sticking around for picnics and trips to the pond. Gus is always ready for an outing.”
This dog is amazing, not only has he adapted to this loving grandma, but each member of the family has a very special and different relationship with him.
Mike said:
“He is a playmate with my children. He is also very affectionate with my daughter. Your vigilance has proven to be the biggest relief from my wife’s anxiety. She just feels safer around the house. with Gus there. He is always present, always there and always ready to love.”
Grammy and Gus are forever linked. It’s fair to say that the giant dog has won the approval of the family, especially the Grammys.
Mike said:
“Grammy constantly talks to Gus and reminds him that he’s a good boy.”
