Dogs, like children, love to play. Some with balls, others prefer sticks, others ropes, still others bottles, and then there are those who, like this very nice Pit bull, love soft toys. This stray dog was housed at the town shelter, where he is currently the oldest dog. Despite his age, the little pit bull has never abandoned his stuffed animals, on the contrary he is proud of all his toys. He can’t do without his fluffy friends, even when he goes out to do his business.
We present to you Waffle Sizzli, a cheerful dog who never tires of her stuffed animals. When Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC) discovered her wandering the streets in November 2022, they decided to take her in, making Waffle their oldest resident in January 2023!
As the charming pit bull waited forever at home for her, the RACC staff showered her with warmth and affection, but nothing brought her more joy than snuggling up to her stuffed animals.
Christie Peters, director of Richmond Animal Care and Control (RACC) told The Dodo:
“He takes them everywhere.”

When Waffle was brought to Christie’s office, the dog immediately noticed the stuffed animals waiting for her. That day marked the beginning of a love affair with stuffed animals.
Excited, the dog ventured into a nearby office and came across two other stuffed animals: a frog and a bird.
The woman remembers:
“He walked down the hall to the other office and took things from there. She brought them to my room so she could have more.”
Waffle had taken his beloved collection of stuffed animals to bed, where he watched them carefully. Every time she left the warmth of her sheets, the playful Waffle couldn’t help but take at least one toy with her. Every time she left to go to the bathroom, she was accompanied by a friend from this special assortment.
Of all the stuffed animals Waffle found, there were a few he really adored.
Christie recounts:
“His absolute favorite was a red plush bone. The second was the frog, but its legs hang down and sometimes it trips over it. The third in the formation was the bird, she carried it a lot.”
Waffle Sizzli was aloof when it came to the other furry occupants of the shelter, but she sure knew how to show off her toys whenever she got the chance.
Christie recalls:
“I walked past the other dogs in their cages with their stuffed animals. I was very proud of them. She brought them to us; however, he did not want us to take them. She just wanted to be admired with her stuffed animals, which we did. It really was the Waffle Sizzli show every day, and we were just the contestants.”

After a long stay at the shelter, Waffle Sizzli finally received a possible application for adoption. A woman who had recently lost her elderly dog saw RACC videos of Waffle enjoying her toys. At that moment, he fell madly in love with her!
Within days, Waffle Sizzli was officially welcomed into her new home. Before leaving to begin this exciting new chapter of life with his family, RACC honored his departure by sending him gifts for the trip.
Christie recounts:
“We sent her home with everything she loved. Now I have pictures of her with her stuffed animals in her new home. “
Although the RACC staff miss the presence of their dear toy-loving friend, they are thrilled that Waffle lives happily with his favorite stuffed animals in a loving and caring home.
Finally, Christie said:
“We like him very much. He’s just the funniest, cutest and most lovable toy-carrying dog.”
