In late October, City of San Antonio Animal Care (ACS) officials received a complaint about two dogs in dire need of help.
“Upon arrival at the scene, both dogs were found with skin and bones, and the white, Rocco, could not bark without falling due to weakness,” the entity said in a Facebook post.
“After speaking with close neighbors it appears he has left the dogs alone for over a week,” the post added.
Chapa, an animal protection officer, managed to contact the owners of the dog, who assured that they were going through difficult times and could no longer provide the dogs with the care they needed.
While the entity was going through the process of transferring the two dogs to God’s Dogs Rescue, a woman saw Rocco’s photo on the web and immediately caught his eye.
“Her previous dog had passed away in August and she didn’t feel ready to bring another dog into her family until she saw Rocco. After seeing his picture, Mrs. P instructed her family and arrived at ACS as soon as our doors open.
When Rocco saw the woman and her family, he greeted them with an adorable tail waving, which moved them deeply.
“They took him for a walk and fell in love before the ink dried on his adoption application.”
Now Rocco is a very healthy dog, although over time the family discovered that he was deaf and communicated with him using sign language. But for the past few months, they’ve been giving him the care and love Rocco needs to get back on his feet.
On January 3, the shelter shared some footage of the incredible transformation Rocco has undergone thanks to all the love and care he’s received.
“We are so happy that Rocco has found his perfect home! Thank you, Family P, for opening your hearts and homes to provide Rocco, a special needs shelter dog, a loving family to grow old with.
ACS also added in the comments that Skye, the dog Rocco was found with, “has undergone an incredible physical transformation and is available for adoption through God’s Dogs Rescue.”
